Martinez homers 3 times for Boston

J.D. Martinez came off the COVID19 list and hit three home runs as the visiting Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 149 Sunday for their sixth straight win.

Martinez struck out in the first inning and made some adjustment­s.

“After that first atbat, I felt like everything just kind of sped up on me,” he said. “I went to the cage and I was like, ‘All right, we need to dial this up.’ ”

Martinez, 33, was back in the lineup one day after being placed on the COVID19 injured list because of cold symptoms. He passed the required tests and went 4for6, driving in four runs and scoring four times.

He got a chance at a recordtyin­g fourth homer in the ninth and struck out swinging.

Martinez hit solo homers in the third, sixth and eighth innings and also had an RBI single. Phillies 7, Braves 6: Didi Gregorius hit a three-run homer in visiting Philadelph­ia’s fourrun fourth inning and had the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the ninth to help snap Atlanta’s four-game winning streak.

Padres 2, Rangers 0: Trent Grisham and Manny Machado homered, Craig Stammen led a parade of six San Diego relievers after starter Adrian Morejon left early with an injury, and the Padres finished a three-game sweep in Arlington, Texas.

D’backs 7, Reds 0: Luke Weaver

retired the first 17 batters he faced, Eduardo Escobar homered for the fourth straight game and host Arizona beat Cincinnati. Weaver (1-0) took a no-hitter into the seventh before Eugenio Suarez’s broken-bat single.

Dodgers 3, Nationals 0: Clayton Kershaw pitched six innings of five-hit ball to win an outstandin­g duel with Max Scherzer as host Los Angeles capped a three-game sweep. Pirates 7, Cubs 1: JT Brubaker pitched into the sixth inning and had the first three RBIs of his career for host Pittsburgh. Yankees 8, Rays 4: Rougned Odor snapped a 10th-inning tie with his first hit as a Yankee, Gio Urshela homered and had three RBIs, and visiting New York avoided a sweep.

Mariners 8, Twins 6: Kyle Seager’s second homer of the game, a three-run drive in the ninth, capped visiting Seattle’s rally from a six-run deficit. Royals 4, White Sox 3: Michael A. Taylor scored when pitcher Garrett Crochet misplayed Andrew Benintendi’s bunt in the 10th inning, sending visiting Kansas City over Chicago.

Brewers 9, Cardinals 3: Avisail Garcia homered for the second day in a row and visiting Milwaukee won for the fourth time in five games.

Indians 5, Tigers 2: Starter Logan Allen got his first win with Cleveland and the Indians completed a three-game sweep of visiting Detroit. Marlins-Mets suspended, rain: The game at Citi Field was halted after two batters and will resume in a day-night doublehead­er Aug. 31. Angels-Blue Jays postponed, rain: The game at the Blue Jays’ temporary home in Dunedin, Fla., will be made up as part of a doublehead­er on Aug. 10 in Anaheim.
