In the aftermath of Daunte Wright’s death, the NBA, NHL and MLB postponed Monday’s games in the Twin Cities, and the reverberation of another police shooting was felt all the way to the West Coast.

Wearing a “Black Lives Matter” Tshirt after Monday’s shootaround, Warriors forward Eric Paschall said something needs to change.

“There are just too many innocent people getting their lives taken by cops,” Paschall said ahead of the Warriors’ home game against Denver. “I’m not saying, at all: ‘All cops are bad.’ I’m not saying that, one bit. But, this is a recurring thing that’s happening in America, and I feel like that needs to change.”

A 24yearold Black man, Paschall said he fears for his parents and three sisters, not to mention his friends.

“It’s scary that we can just leave this house and fear for ourselves,” Paschall said. “If we’re being real, people are driving, and as soon as they hear cop sirens, they fear. One of my friends got pulled over the other day, and that’s the first thing that goes through my mind. …

“We shouldn’t be in fear of getting pulled over by the cops, because we never know if we’re going to make it out alive or not.”

Wright was shot Sunday by a police officer from Brooklyn Center, which is about 10 miles from the site of the ongoing trial for Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who is charged in the death of George Floyd.

In a statement, police said Wright had an outstanding arrest warrant. As police tried to arrest him, he got back in his car.

Police released body camera video Monday that showed an officer trying to handcuff Wright. The officer yells “taser” multiple times after apparently shooting Wright with his handgun.
