Forearm issue lands L.A.’s Kershaw on IL

-

Dodgers lefthander Clayton Kershaw was placed on the injured list Wednesday because of left forearm inflammation, the team announced.

Kershaw, 33, made his most recent start Saturday when he threw 54 pitches and allowed three runs in four innings in a rainshortened outing at Washington.

Kershaw had been scheduled to start against the Diamondbacks on Friday. He now won’t pitch until after the AllStar break and the Dodgers are scrambling to find someone to insert in the rotation.

Among Los Angeles’ options is lefthander David Price, a fivetime AllStar and 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner who has a 3.58 ERA this season. However, the longest of his 23 outings has been 22⁄3 innings

For the season, Kershaw is 97 with a 3.39 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 1061⁄3 innings in 18 starts.

Los Angeles recalled righthander Mitch White from TripleA Oklahoma City to fill Kershaw’s roster spot. Medical report: White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal had surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left knee, the team said. The White Sox expect him to return this season but will update the diagnosis in four to six weeks . ... Tampa Bay outfielder Manuel Margot went on the 10day injured list because of a hamstring strain. The list of players landing on the IL also includes Cleveland outfielder Eddie Rosario (abdominal strain), Detroit outfielder Daz Cameron (sprained toe), Baltimore third baseman Maikel Franco (sprained ankle), St. Louis pitcher Carlos Martinez (thumb) and Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta (hamstring tightness).

Among the players activated from the IL were Minnesota pitcher Michael Pineda, Detroit shortstop Niko Goodrum, Houston reliever Joe Smith and Tampa Bay pitcher Josh Fleming.

AllStar Game update: Mets righthander Jacob deGrom, who threw seven innings against the Brewers on Wednesday, said after the game that he won’t pitch in the AllStar Game in Denver on Tuesday.

“Being named to an AllStar team is a great honor,” said deGrom, a fourtime AllStar who said he would be available to pitch in relief Sunday. “But I’m going to take that time and just enjoy it with my family. It’s best for me and this team for me to not go, and rest for the second half.”

⏩ The Rangers, via Twitter, and Nationals, via Instagram, announced that Joey Gallo and Juan Soto, respectively, will participate in Home Run Derby on Monday as part of the AllStar Game festivities.

The players’ inclusion completes the event’s eightman field, which also has A’s first baseaman Matt Olson as well as Shohei Ohtani (Angels), Salvador Perez (Royals), Trey Mancini (Orioles), Pete Alonso (Mets) and Trevor Story (Rockies).

Bauer fallout: The Dodgers have canceled Trevor Bauer bobblehead night, scheduled for Aug. 19, and pulled his merchandise from their team stores after the righthander was placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball on Friday following accusations that he sexually assaulted a woman.

“The Dodgers did not feel (the bobblehead night) was appropriate while investigations continue by Major League Baseball and the Pasadena Police Department. The team will have no further comment at this time,” the team said in a statement to Los Angeles TV station KTTV.

Bauer’s agents have said his actions with the woman were “wholly consensual.”
