Padres ride cycle in 248 bashing of Nats

Jake Cronenwort­h hit for his first career cycle, Wil Myers had two homers including a grand slam, and San Diego set a franchise record for runs in a 248 blowout of the Nationals in Washington on Friday.

The Padres, who finished the first half by losing two of three to the Rockies, had 22 hits against seven Washington pitchers. San Diego scored in every inning except the seventh as the Nationals allowed the most runs since the franchise moved from Montreal to Washington in 2005.

“That, for an extended period of time, was as nasty as I’ve seen our group,” Padres manager Jayce Tingler said.

Cronenwort­h had a tworun double in the second, an RBI triple in the third, a solo homer in the fifth and an infield single against the shift in the sixth. Jurickson Profar replaced him at second base in the bottom of the seventh.

Myers hit a grand slam to cap a sevenrun second inning, and added a tworun homer in the sixth and an RBI single in the eighth.

Tommy Pham had four hits, including a homer, and scored five runs, and Jorge Mateo homered.

Chris Taylor’s threerun home run sparked a fiverun first inning for visiting Los Angeles, which cruised to victory over Colorado.

Red Sox 4, Yankees 0:

Eduardo Rodriguez shut down New York into the sixth inning, Christian Arroyo and J.D. Martinez homered, and visiting Boston beat its rival.

Astros 7, White Sox 1:

Lance McCullers Jr. pitched seven sparkling innings and visiting Houston beat Chicago. Michael Brantley homered and Myles Straw drove in three runs.

Brewers 11, Reds 6:

Willy Adames homered and drove in four runs in Milwaukee’s road victory over Cincinnati.

Pirates 4, Mets 1: AllStars Bryan Reynolds homered and Adam Frazier hit a tworun single to lead host Pittsburgh to victory over New York. Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor left in the fifth inning with soreness on his right side.

Rays 7, Braves 6: Austin Meadows hit a single in the 10th inning to score Brett Phillips from second base in Tampa Bay’s victory over host Atlanta.

Royals 9, Orioles 2: Nicky Lopez drove in four runs to lead Kansas City past visiting Baltimore.

Blue Jays 10, Rangers 2:

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. followed up his breakout AllStar Game with two homers, and Toronto powered past Texas in Buffalo, N.Y.

Marlins, Phillies split: Jesus Aguilar homered and drove in four runs, Starling Marte went deep with three RBIs as Miami beat host Philadelph­ia 70 to split a doublehead­er. In the opener, Travis Jankowski drove in four runs and Matt Moore struck out nine in the Phillies’ 52 win.

The doublehead­er in Detroit was rained out. One game will be made up as part of a doublehead­er Saturday, with the second to be played Aug. 30.
