Gladys Miller

Gladys passed away peacefully at her home of seventy years in San Mateo on Sunday, July 18th. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Miller.

A native California­n, she was born and raised in Millbrae. Gladys attended Burlingame High School, where she was a straight-A student and star basketball player. She graduated from high school in 1947 and immediatel­y went to work at an insurance office in San Francisco.

In 1951 she married Robert Miller at St. Mathews Catholic Church in San Mateo. In 1952 they moved into the family home in San Mateo. Gladys was a busy homemaker raising their three children. In the early 1970’s she went to school to become a medical transcript­ionist. She worked at Mills-Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, she enjoyed her work and enduring friendship­s with coworkers.

As a couple, Gladys and Bob spent many years traveling the world together. This was made much easier when Gladys graduated from the SFO Fear of Flying class in 1982. One of the most meaningful trips was a visit with family in England. Of all the places she visited in the world, Hawaii was her favorite destinatio­n.

She loved being a Grandmothe­r and treasured becoming a Great Grandmothe­r. “Nana” shared her love of all things Mickey Mouse with her grandchild­ren. They will always associate whales, dolphins and the color turquoise with Nana.

She is survived by her children, Robert Jr. (Laura), Christophe­r, and Kathleen Evans (Dave). Her grandchild­ren, Colleen Evans, Katie Alma (Mark), Amanda Miller (Adam), Courtney Miller, Jessica Miller, and Scott Miller (Danielle). Her great-grandchild­ren, DJ Alma, and JJ Pelkey. All will greatly miss her.

The family wishes to acknowledg­e Gladys’ loving caregiver, Nia. Nia provided outstandin­g care and friendship to Gladys over the last four years.

There is a funeral mass, Thursday, July 29th, 10:00 am at St. Matthews Catholic Church. 1 Notre Dame Avenue, San Mateo, with interment at Skylawn Memorial Park.
