Messi to sign with PSG

Lionel Messi is expected to sign a threeyear contract with French superclub Paris SaintGerma­in, according to multiple reports Friday.

The 34yearold alltime great shockingly split Thursday from Barcelona, the only European club he ever knew. The club blamed “financial obstacles” for the breakup, and said both sides wanted to stay together.

Messi scored 38 goals in 47 appearance­s for Barcelona last year, his secondlowe­st total since the 200809 season but the best mark of anyone in Spain.

Stanford’s Heck in Amateur final

NCAA champion Rachel Heck of Stanford advanced to the U.S. Women’s Amateur golf semifinals, beating Kan Bunnabodee of Thailand 3 and 2 at Westcheste­r Country Club in Harrison, N.J.

Heck will face University of Kentucky player Jensen Castle, who beat Virginia Tech’s Emily Mahar 6 and 5.

In the other semifinal, Valentina Rossi of Argentina will face Hou Yuchiang of Taiwan. Rossi, who plays at Michigan State, beat Stanford player Brooke Seay in 19 holes, and Hou topped 15yearold Cara Heisterkam­p of Westlake, Ohio, 4 and 3.

⏩ Harris English shot a 5underpar 65 at TPC Southwind in Memphis to hold onto a twostroke lead in the World Golf Championsh­ips’ FedEx St. Jude Invitation­al.

English withstood challenges from Cameron Smith and Abraham Ancer, who each shot 62, to hold the top spot at 13under 127.

Ian Poulter (66), Scottie Scheffler (65) and Sam Burns (64) were 10under, and Louis Oosthuizen (64) and Bryson DeChambeau (66) were 9under.

⏩ Emiliano Grillo had an early eagle in a 17point round in smoky conditions in Truckee to take the secondroun­d lead in the Barracuda Championsh­ip, the only PGA Tour event that uses the modified Stableford scoring system.

Players receive eight points for an albatross, five for eagle, two for birdie and zero for par. A point is subtracted for a bogey, and three points are taken away for a double bogey or worse.

Grillo, the 28yearold Argentine player who won the 2016 Frys.com Open in Napa for his lone PGA Tour title, had a 29point total on Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood Course.

Adam Schenk was two points back after a 19point day. He eagled the par5 sixth.

Tennis: Jenson Brooksby, 20, beat 11thseeded John Millman of Australia 61, 62 at the Citi Open, making the 20yearold from Sacramento the lowestrank­ed semifinali­st in Washington since John Isner in 2007.

⏩ In the Silicon Valley Classic at the San Jose State Tennis Center, topseeded Elise Mertens defeated No. 8 seed Yulia Putintseva 63, 76 (8) to reach the semifnals.

NHL: New York Islanders defenseman Adam Pelech agreed to an eightyear, $46 million contract extension.
