Marilyn Singer Benioff
June 3, 1928 - August 22, 2021
Marilyn Singer Benioff passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2021. Born in Brooklyn, New York to Louis and Eva Singer, Marilyn ventured out to California for college, attending Stanford University and later UC Berkeley. In San Francisco, she met the love of her life, Alexis Benioff, to whom she was married for 69 years, until his passing in 2016. Marilyn had a keen artistic eye and a Parisian sense of style, and in addition to raising three children, used her talents to create advertising for various businesses, including the family-owned Benioff’s Department Store, and in her job as manager of Gold and Silver, a jewelry store at the Stanford Court Hotel. An avid reader and longtime San Franciscan, she volunteered after retirement with the San Francisco Public Library and City Guides. Her zest for life was wide-ranging – she loved traveling the world, going to the theatre, and cheering her beloved Giants. She was loving, kind, and generous, as well as candid, resilient, and strong. Marilyn is survived by her children Jeanne (John Richardson), Carol, and Louis (Rachel); and her grandchildren eae and Isaac Benioff. She will be missed by her extended family and friends. The family is deeply grateful to Marilyn’s compassionate caregivers Malia Salt and Melieni Cruz. If you wish to make a donation in Marilyn’s honor, gifts can be made to the American Conservatory Theater, the San Francisco Public Library, or the San Francisco Senior Center. A memorial/celebration of life will take place on Sunday, October 17.
