Bob Cavalli

-

Bob Cavalli, 76, passed away peacefully on November 9, at his home in La Quinta.

Bob was born on November 12, 1944 in San Francisco. He grew up in the outer Mission district and attended St. Ignatius High School where he was a star athlete and was selected to the All-City baseball team for three years. He then attended San Francisco State University and graduated with a degree in Physical Education. He was an All-American pitcher and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox following his senior year. His college career included pitching back to back no hitters for the first and only time in conference history. A promising career as a pitcher was cut short by an injury to his pitching hand.

Bob returned to the Bay Area, eventually settling in Marin County, and began a teaching career at Town School for Boys that spanned 34 years. He eventually became Town School’s athletic director until his retirement.

In 1976, Bob founded Camp Unique, a summer camp which he ran successfully until 2006. As a teacher and camp director, Bob touched the lives of thousands of young men and women, many of whom maintained contact with him throughout the years.

Bob was an avid golfer, carrying a single digit handicap for many years. In recent years he shot his age many times and recently scored his third hole in one. He enjoyed a golfing trip to Scotland and Ireland in 2017 with his son, Kevin.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Stenning; two children, Christa and Kevin (Noelle), both of Reno; 2 grandchildren, Sofia and Gianna; his father, John, age 99; and brother, Steven (Margaret). He was preceded in death by his late wife, Pamela Jane.

Donations may be made in Bob’s name to The Desert Cancer Foundation (desertcancerfoundation.org) or to Town School for Boys, 2750 Jackson St., San Francisco, CA 94115 (https://www.townschool.com/donationform).
