Cal tops San Diego for 1st win; Stanford upends Spartans

Forward Grant Anticevich scored a game-high 17 points at Haas Pavilion on Monday night, leading Cal to its first win of the season, a 75-70 decision over San Diego.

The Bears opened their schedule with an 80-67 home loss to UC San Diego last Tuesday and then fell 55-52 at UNLV on Saturday.

On Monday, Anticevich went 5-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. The Bears were 10for-15 from long range.

chipped in 14 points, Andre Kelly had 13 points and eight rebounds, and Joel Brown collected 12 points and seven assists.

Jase Townsend led the Toreros (1-2) with 16 points. Joey Calcaterra, a Marin CatholicKe­ntfield alum, had 15.

Stanford 76, San Jose State 62:

At Maples Pavilion, the Cardinal (2-1) overcame a nine-point halftime deficit as freshman Harrison Ingram scored 19 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Jaiden Delaire also had 19 points as Stanford outscored

the Spartans 47-24 in the second half.

Omari Moore scored a game-high 21 points for San Jose State (1-1).

Stanford outrebound­ed the Spartans 42-27.

USF 77, Samford 55: On the Hilltop, Jamaree Bouyea had team highs of 19 points and six assists and fellow guard Khalil Shabazz — who’s listed at 6-foot, 170 pounds — had 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds as the Dons improved to 4-0.

The Dons also got doubledigi­t scoring from Yauhen Massalski (16) and Julian Rishwain (13).

Ques Glover scored a game-high 24 points for the Bulldogs (2-1), who were held to 32.8% shooting (19-for-58).

St. Mary’s 70, Southern Utah 51:

In Moraga, Tommy Kuhse poured in a game-high 17 points as the Gaels improved to 3-0.

Logan Johnson (13 points), Alex Ducas (12) and Dan Fotu (12) also scored in double figures for St. Mary’s. Freshman Augustas Marciulion­is contribute­d eight points and a team-high five assists.

St. Mary’s limited the Thunderbir­ds (1-2) to 35% shooting (21-for-60), including 15.4% (4-for-26) from 3-point range.
