USF defeats Towson, improves to 7-0

Jamaree Bouyea scored 20 points and Yauhen Massalski added 13 as USF beat Towson 71-61 at the Orleans Arena in the Las Vegas Invitation­al on Thursday.

The Dons, 7-0 for the second time in three years, took a ninepoint lead into halftime but the Tigers (3-3) trimmed the margin to 63-60 with 2:28 remaining before USF closed the game on an 8-1 run.

USF will face UAB in Las Vegas on Friday.

#4 Kansas 71, North Texas 59: Ochai Agbaji had 18 points to lead the Jayhawks (4-0) past the Mean Green (2-2) in the first round of the ESPN Events Invitation­al in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Iona 72, #10 Alabama 68: Nelly Joseph and Walter Clayton Jr. scored 15 points apiece as the Gaels (6-0) downed the Crimson Tide (4-1) in Lake Buena Vista to become the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference squad to beat a top-10 team. Jaden Shackelfor­d scored 19 points for Alabama.

#6 Baylor 69, VCU 61: Matthew Mayer scored 15 points and freshman Kendall Brown added 14 to help the Bears (6-0) defeat the Rams (3-3) in the Battle 4 Atlantis semifinals in Paradise Island, Bahamas.

#19 Auburn 62, Loyola (Chicago) 53:

Jabari Smith had 14 points to lead the Tigers (4-1) past the Ramblers (4-2) in a consolatio­n-round game in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Michigan State 64, #22 UConn 60:

Gabe Brown scored 16 points, A.J. Hoggard hit the go-ahead free throw with 30.3 seconds left and the Spartans (5-1) scored the game’s final nine points to beat the Huskies (5-1) in the Battle 4 Atlantis semifinals.

#24 USC 70, St. Joseph’s 55:

Boogie Ellis scored 17 points to lead the Trojans (5-0) past the Hawks (2-3) in the Wooden Legacy tournament in Anaheim.

Syracuse 92, Arizona St. 84:

Buddy Boeheim had 23 points to lead five Orange players in double figures as Syracuse (3-2) beat the Sun Devils (2-4) in the Battle 4 Atlantis. Marreon Jackson scored 17 points for ASU.
