Kraken prevail in Buffalo

Seattle’s Jared McCann and Mason Appleton each scored two goals, and the Kraken beat the Sabres 7-4 in Buffalo, N.Y., on Monday night.

Brandon Tanev had a goal and two assists, and Carson Soucy and Jaden Schwartz also scored for the expansion Kraken, who had their seasonhigh scoring total. Yanni Gourde and Morgan Geekie each had two assists.

Chris Driedger made 32 saves as Seattle won its fourth in five games and second straight on the road.

Jeff Skinner had two goals for the Sabres, who have lost five in a row at home and six of seven overall. Dylan Cozens and Brett Murray also scored and Dustin Tokarski stopped 25 shots.

Flames 2, Penguins 1: Mikael Backlund scored in the seventh round of the shootout before Jacob Markstrom stopped Pittsburgh’s Brock McGinn as host Calgary won for the fifth time in six games.

Coyotes 1, Jets 0: Antoine Roussel scored a second-period goal and rookie goalie Karel Vejmelka stopped 46 shots for his first career shutout as Arizona dealt host Winnipeg its sixth loss in seven games.
