Washington foils Wilson’s comeback

Kendall Fuller intercepte­d Russell Wilson’s pass on a last-minute two-point conversion attempt, and Washington held on to beat the Seahawks 17-15 Monday night in Landover, Md., for the team’s third consecutiv­e victory.

Wilson led the Seahawks (3-8) on a 10-play, 96-yard touchdown drive in the final three minutes. He connected with Freddy Swain on a 32yard TD pass with 15 seconds left but came up just short of leading a memorable comeback on his 33rd birthday.

Wilson was 20-for-31 for 247 yards and two TD passes, but he lost three consecutiv­e games for the first time as the Seahawks’ starting quarterbac­k.

Washington (5-6) moved into the final NFC wild-card spot with the win. J.D. McKissic caught a touchdown pass from Taylor Heinicke, ran for another and accounted for 56 yards from scrimmage.

McCaffrey’s season done: Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey will miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.

McCaffrey, a former Stanford standout, had an MRI exam Monday that revealed the injury was severe enough to put him on injured reserve.

More medical news: Vikings running back Dalvin Cook is expected to miss at least two games because of a shoulder injury suffered Sunday in a loss to the 49ers, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.

Browns right tackle Jack Conklin will undergo surgery after suffering a season-ending knee injury Sunday in Cleveland’s loss to the Ravens.

Jaguars tight end Dan Arnold is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks because of a knee injury, NFL Network reported.

Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt was placed on the reserve/ COVID-19 list, making his status for Pittsburgh’s game against the Ravens on Sunday unclear.

Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson, Patriots running back J.J. Taylor, Giants tackle Kyle Murphy and Ravens defensive back Kevon Seymour also went on the COVID list.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy tested positive for the coronaviru­s and will not be with the team Thursday for its game in New Orleans.

Briefly: The NFL suspended Cowboys defensive tackle Trysten Hill for two games for throwing a punch at Raiders offensive lineman John Simpson . ... The Bills signed former 49ers cornerback Tim Harris to their practice squad.
