Cardinal reach No. 4 in AP poll

Stanford climbed three spots to No. 4 in the Associated Press women’s basketball poll Monday, in a week that saw eight of the top 10 teams change places behind unanimous No. 1 South Carolina.

Maryland dropped six spots to No. 8. UConn reclaimed the No. 2 spot — up one spot and shared with N.C. State — after the Terrapins were blown out by the Wolfpack and Stanford.

Stanford wasn’t the only Pac-12 team moving up: Arizona climbed two spots to seventh after winning three games in the U.S. Virgin Islands over the weekend.

In the men’s poll, Duke jumped to No. 1 after its win against Gonzaga, climbing from fifth. The Bulldogs fell to third behind Purdue.

Women

#1 South Carolina 79, North Carolina A&T 42: Aliyah Boston scored 29 points on 13-of-13 shooting and powered the Gamecocks (8-0) over the visiting Aggies (0-6). Boston added 14 rebounds, one off her season high, and three blocked shots during her 20 minutes of action.

Men

#3 Gonzaga 64, Tarleton State 55: Rasir Bolton scored 17 points and Chet Holmgren added 15 as the Bulldogs (7-1) beat the Texans (1-6) for their 56th straight home win.

#7 Texas 73, Sam Houston State 57: Marcus Carr scored a season-high 19 points and the host Longhorns (5-1) beat the Bearkats (2-5).

#9 Kentucky 85, Central Michigan 57: Oscar Tshiebwe had 20 points and 16 rebounds, TyTy Washington Jr. added 15 points and the host Wildcats (6-1) overwhelme­d the Chippewas (1-5).

St. Mary’s 67, UC Riverside 50: Matthias Tass scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Gaels (7-1) beat the Highlander­s (5-3) to push their home record to 5-0.

Oregon 87, Montana 47: Will Richardson scored 18 points as the host Ducks (4-3) beat the Grizzlies (4-3).
