Ohio State upsets No. 1 Duke; No. 2 Purdue set to rise again

Zed Key scored a career-high 20 points and host Ohio State held top-ranked Duke scoreless for the final 41⁄2 minutes, completing a rally from a 15-point second-half deficit to beat the Blue Devils 71-66 on Tuesday night.

E.J. Liddell hit two free throws with 1:06 remaining to give the Buckeyes (5-2) their first lead since early in the first half, and his jumper made it 69-66 with 16 seconds left. Duke freshman star Paolo Banchero missed a tying 3-pointer, and Cedric Russell got the rebound and closed it out at the free-throw line.

The Blue Devils (7-1) claimed the top spot in this week’s AP Top 25 poll after beating thenNo. 1 Gonzaga in Las Vegas. Ohio State improved to 2-1 against ranked foes this year.

#2 Purdue 93, Florida State 65: One day after matching the highest ranking in school history, No. 2 Purdue wanted to show it’s second to none. Jaden Ivey scored 18 points and matched his career high with four 3-pointers, Brandon Newman added 13 points, and the host Boilermake­rs pulled away in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Florida State (5-2) was led by Caleb Mills with 22 points as its four-game winning streak ended.

#13 Tennessee 86, Presbyteri­an 44: Kennedy Chandler and Justin Powell scored 15 points each to lead the host Volunteers (5-1). Kobe Stewart and Winston Hill led Presbyteri­an (5-3) with nine points each.

#15 Houston 99, Northweste­rn St. 58: Marcus Sasser made seven 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 26 points for the host Cougars (6-1)

#17 UConn 72, Md.-Eastern Shore 63: R.J. Cole scored 25 points and the host Huskies survived a challenge from Maryland-Eastern Shore (2-5).

Santa Clara 70, Hawaii 58: Jalen Williams had a career-high 30 points as the Broncos (6-2) won at home. Keshawn Justice added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Santa Clara. Jerome Desrosiers had 13 points and nine rebounds for Hawaii (3-3).

San Jose St. 61, South Dakota 52: Omari Moore had 18 points and six rebounds for the Spartans (3-3) at home. Mason Archambaul­t scored a career-high 21 points and had seven rebounds for the Coyotes (4-3).

WOMEN

#5 Baylor 73, Morehead State 28: Sarah Andrews scored 20 points, Queen Egbo and NaLyssa Smith each had a double-double and the host Bears (7-1) held the Eagles to 20% shooting (11-for-55).

St. Mary’s 79, San Jose St. 71: Ali Bamberger had 22 points and 20 rebounds and Taycee Wedin scored 23 points as the Gaels (4-3) won at home. Ella Ogier scored 20 points, Stephanie Torres 19 and A’Tyanna Gaulden 15 for the Spartans (3-4).
