St. Mary’s women can’t handle No. 2 N.C. State

Second-ranked North Carolina State got 52 points from its bench Sunday and won its 10th straight game, beating visiting St. Mary’s 101-73.

Elissa Cunane led the Wolfpack (10-1) with 15 points and nine rebounds. She had nine points during an early 18-0 run.

Jade Kirisome led the Gaels (5-4) with 17 points but St. Mary’s couldn’t overcome 16 turnovers.

“You can’t give the ball to the No. 2 team in the nation that shoots the ball that effectivel­y,” St. Mary’s head coach Paul Thomas said. “We just did not get enough stops to counter that.”

Kansas 80, Santa Clara 65: Ioanna Chatzileon­ti scored 15 points and the host Jayhawks (8-1) used a 13-0 fourthquar­ter run to pull away from the Broncos (5-2). Merle Wiehl had 20 points and eight rebounds for Santa Clara.

#6 Arizona 77, New Mexico 60: Madi Conner came off the bench to score 15 points and the host Wildcats (9-0) used a 10-0 run in the third quarter to put away the Lobos (8-4).

Villanova 56, #23 Oregon State 52: Maddy Siegrist’s 28 points paced the Wildcats (5-5) in their win over the Beavers (5-3). Jelena Mitrovic scored 14 points for Oregon State.

Creighton 69, Arizona State 62: Carly Bachelor scored 23 points to lead the host Bluejays (6-2) past the Sun Devils (5-5). Mael Gilles scored 18 points for Arizona State.

#1 South Carolina 66, #8 Maryland 59: Zia Cooke scored 20 points and Aliyah Boston added 16 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocked shots for the host Gamecocks (10-0) against the Terrapins (9-3).

#7 Louisville 64, #14 Kentucky 58: Ahlana Smith scored 15 points as the host Cardinals (8-1) defeated the Wildcats (6-3).

#9 Tennessee 84, Georgia State 60: Tamari Key had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the host Volunteers (9-0) against the Panthers (4-5).

#10 Indiana 86, #20 Ohio State 66: Mackenzie Holmes scored 30 points as the visiting Hoosiers (8-2, 2-0 Big Ten) topped the Buckeyes (7-2, 1-1).

#13 Michigan 73, Minnesota 61: Naz Hillmon scored 25 points to lead the host Wolverines (10-1, 2-0 Big Ten) past the Gophers (6-6, 0-2).

#15 Iowa St. 52, Northern Iowa 45: Lexi Donarski scored 19 points and the host Cyclones (10-1) beat the Panthers (6-3).

#17 South Florida 64, VCU 57: Elisa Pinzan scored 24 points and Dulcy Mendjiadeu Fankam scored 10 straight in a fourth-quarter rally to lead the visiting Bulls (6-3) past the Rams (5-4).

TCU 87, #18 Texas A&M 75: Lauren Heard scored 33 points and Aja Holmes added 22 for the host Horned Frogs (4-4) against the Aggies (9-2).

MEN No. 1 Purdue wins

Trevion Williams had 22 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists and No. 1 Purdue erased a 13-point, second-half deficit to beat North Carolina State 82-72 in overtime in New York.

Jaden Ivey added 22 points for the Boilermake­rs (9-1) against the Wolfpack (7-3).

#2 Baylor 57, #6 Villanova 36: Salesian-Richmond alum James Akinjo had 16 points with seven rebounds for the host Bears (9-0) against the Wildcats (7-3). Villanova’s point total and shooting percentage (22) were its lowest in 21 seasons under head coach Jay Wright.

#16 USC 73, Long Beach State 62: Isaiah Mobley had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the host Trojans (10-0) against the 49ers (3-7).

#17 Iowa State 47, Jackson State 37: The host Cyclones (10-0), who lost their final 18 games last season, beat the Jaguars (2-7).

Maryland 70, #20 Florida 68: Donta Scott hit the go-ahead shot with 16.8 seconds left as the Terrapins (6-4) beat the Gators (7-3) in New York.
