Vrankic returns, but Santa Clara stumbles

Preseason All-WCC forward Josip Vrankic returned to Santa Clara’s lineup after missing nearly a month with a non-coronaviru­s-related illness Tuesday night at Boise State.

He scored 12 points but Santa Clara dropped the all-Broncos matchup 72-60.

Tyson Degenhart had 18 points and Mladen Armus had 17 points and 12 rebounds Boise State (7-4).

Vrankic hit a jumper with nine minutes left to give Santa Clara (7-5) a 56-55 lead. About a minute later, Abu Kigab nailed a 3-pointer and Boise was ahead to stay.

St. Mary’s 76, Stanislaus State 39:

Moraga, the Gaels (10-2) trailed by a point at halftime before outscoring the Warriors 49-11 in the second half. Kyle Bowen and Matthias Tass each had 12 points to lead St. Mary’s.

Arizona State 58, Creighton 57: DJ Horne had 12 points as the visiting Sun Devils (5-6) edged the Bluejays (8-3).

UC Davis 71, Oregon State 64: Ezra Manjon scored 27 points as the visiting Aggies (5-3) handed the Beavers (1-9) their ninth straight loss.

#2 Duke 103, South Carolina St. 62: AJ Griffin scored 19 points and the host Blue Devils (8-1) dusted the Bulldogs (3-8).

Memphis 92, #6 Alabama 78: DeAndre Williams had 20 points and six assists as the host Tigers (6-4) knocked

off the Crimson Tide (8-2). #13 Auburn 70, North Alabama 44:

Walker Kessler had 14 points as the host Tigers (9-1) put away the Lions (6-4). This marked the second game of a twogame suspension for Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl.

#14 Houston 71, Louisiana-Lafayette 56: Josh Carlton had 17 points and nine rebounds as the host Cougars (9-2) downed the Ragin’ Cajuns (5-5).

#17 Texas 63, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 31: The host Longhorns (7-2) held the Golden Lions (1-11) without a field goal for nearly 12 minutes to start the game.

#18 Tennessee 96, South Carolina Upstate 52: Olivier Nkamhoua had 21 points and eight rebounds as the host Volunteers (8-2) dusted Upstate (2-8).

#19 LSU 89, Northweste­rn State 49: Tari Eason had 18 points and the host Tigers (10-0) routed the Demons (2-9).

#25 Texas Tech 75, Arkansas St. 62: Kevin McCullar scored 21 points and the host Red Raiders (8-1) got past the Red Wolves (7-3).

WOMEN

Kansas City 69, Santa Clara 62: Brooklyn McDavid had 26 points as the host Roos (10-1) topped the Broncos (5-3).

Bueckers has surgery: UConn said guard Paige Bueckers has undergone successful surgery to repair the left leg fracture she suffered a week ago as well as a meniscus tear in that knee. Bueckers’ recovery is expected to take two months from the date of surgery, the school said.
