Cal women stop St. Mary’s

Evelien Lutje Schipholt had 20 points and 10 rebounds as Cal closed its non-conference season with a 73-55 victory over St. Mary’s at Haas Pavilion on Tuesday.

The Bears (9-2), who have won three in a row, also got 18 points from Jayda Curry, 14 from Dalayah Daniels and 11 from Caily Crocker.

Ali Bamberger scored 12 points and Madeline Holland 11 to lead the Gaels (6-5).

Cal led by three after the first quarter and was up 10 at halftime. St. Mary’s was within eight in the fourth quarter before the Bears used a 15-4 burst to put the game out of reach.

“I think this is a really great way to head into the break and also to head into Pac-12 play,” said Cal coach Charmin Smith, who noted that a 9-2 record “was actually the goal. So I’m proud that we did what I thought were were supposed to do.”

UC Santa Barbara 81, San Jose State 51: Ila Lane scored 26 points to lead the visiting Gauchos (6-3) past the Spartans (3-8). Meghan Oberg had 14 points for San Jose State.

Oklahoma 83, Utah 76: Taylor Robertson had 19 points and the host Sooners (10-1) rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Utes (8-3). Gianna Kneepkens had 19 points for Utah.

Arizona State 69, UC Irvine 52: Jade Loville had 20 points for the host Sun Devils (7-5) against the Anteaters (5-5).

#6 Maryland 98, Coppin State 52: Katie Benzan scored 22 points as the Terrapins (10-3) won in Baltimore against the Eagles (6-6).

#13 Georgia 89, South Alabama 50: Jenna Staiti scored 17 points and the host Bulldogs (11-1) downed the Jaguars (6-7).

IUPUI 74, #15 Iowa 73: Rachel McLimore scored 12 of her 19 points in the fourth, helping the visiting Jaguars (5-4) erase a 15-point deficit entering the quarter, in their win over the Hawkeyes (6-3).

#16 Duke 78, Charleston Southern 35: Elizabeth Balogun scored 14 points to lead the visiting Blue Devils (9-1) past the Buccaneers (0-11).

#17 Georgia Tech 78, Boston University 49: Eylia Love’s 19 points helped the Yellow Jackets (10-2) handle the visiting Terriers (4-7).

Mississipp­i 61, #18 South Florida 53: Madison Scott scored 12 points and Angel Baker had 11 for the Rebels (12-1) against the Bulls (8-4) in the West Palm Beach (Fla.) Invitation­al.

#19 BYU 89, Montana State 67: Shaylee Gonzalez scored 21 points and Lauren Gustin added 15 points and 18 rebounds to help the Cougars (9-1) beat the Bobcats (7-6) on the road.

MEN

Santa Clara 79, San Jose State 57: Five Broncos scored in double figures in a road win over the Spartans (6-5). Santa Clara (10-5) finished the non-conference slate with 10 wins, their most since 2012-13.

Utah 55, Fresno State 50: Marco Anthony scored 11 points and Lahat Thioune had 10 as the host Utes (8-4) bested the Bulldogs (9-3). Orlando Robinson scored 17 points for Fresno State.

Utah Valley 68, Washington 52: Le’Tre Darthard scored 16 points, Fardaws Aimaq added 15 points and 15 rebounds, and the visiting Wolverines (9-3) shut down the Huskies (5-5).

#9 Iowa State 79, Chicago State 48: Izaiah Brockingto­n had 20 points and 13 rebounds and the host Cyclones (12-0) defeated the Cougars (4-8).

Davidson 79, #10 Alabama 78: Luka Brajkovic scored 22 points for the Wildcats (9-2) in their win over the Crimson Tide (9-3) in Birmingham, Ala.

#11 Michigan State 90, Oakland 78: Marcus Bingham Jr. and Max Christie had 17 points apiece for the Spartans (10-2) against the Golden Grizzlies (7-4) in Detroit.

Oregon 68, Pepperdine 59: De’Vion Harmon hit four straight free throws in the final minute to allow the Ducks (7-6) to hold off the Waves (5-9).
