No. 8 Indiana routs Southern Illinois

Mackenzie Holmes and Grace Berger each scored 18 points to lead No. 8 Indiana to a 70-37 victory over Southern Illinois on Thursday in Bloomingto­n, Ind.

Holmes went 8-for-12 from the field. She also had a team-high seven rebounds.

Nicole Cardano-Hillary had 11 points, four assists and four rebounds for the Hoosiers (10-2). Payton McCalliste­r led the Salukis (5-5) with 10 points

⏩ Both scheduled games featuring teams in the men’s Top 25 — No. 15 Seton Hall at DePaul and George Mason at No. 24 Wisconsin — were not played. The game at DePaul was postponed. The one at Wisconsin was canceled.

Horse racing: An emergency hearing has been scheduled for Friday to determine whether the veterinary license of the newly appointed equine medical director for the California Horse Racing Board should be temporaril­y suspended.

Dr. Jeff Blea, who is in charge of the investigat­ion into the death of Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit, was hit with a 27-page “accusation” by the state Veterinary Medical Board last Friday alleging he violated several state regulation­s in the year prior to being named equine medical director July 1.

Blea declined to comment on the hearing or the charges.

⏩ A deal for the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency to police drugs in horse racing cratered after months of negotiatio­ns that the agency’s CEO said did not give it “a reasonable chance to put in place a credible and effective program.”

USADA was set to become the regulator for anti-doping and medication control for thoroughbr­ed racing under the Horseracin­g Integrity and Safety Act, which is set to go into effect in July.
