Maryann Lyons

Maryann Lyons passed peacefully with her loving family at her side on April, 26, 2022. Maryann Louie Lyons was born in Stockton California on April 7, 1946. She graduated from Edison High School. She arrived in San Francisco with a hundred dollars, worked for the telephone company by day and attended San Francisco State College at night. She graduated with a degree in graphic arts and a teaching credential.

Maryann worked in the San Francisco Unified School District for 32 years. She taught 6th Grade at Paul Revere Middle School, and 7th and 8th grade English, History, Social Studies, and ESL at Francisco Middle School. She was a SFUSD mentor teacher and a SFUSD Literacy Specialist. She then became the Profession­al Developmen­t Coordinato­r from the SFUSD Gifted and Talented Office. Maryann conducted numerous teacher and principal workshops. Some of her curriculum is still being used today. She also wrote curriculum and conducted workshops for the Chronicle Newspaper In Education Program, was a contributo­r for the Encycloped­ia Britannica, and taught classes at San Francisco State College. She was the Associate Director for the summer Berkeley History Project for three years.

She left teaching still loving her profession and kept in contact with many of her colleagues and her students, After her retirement she designed and made jewelry which she sold with her very best “Tomadachi” friends at Silver Bells. She and her best friend and loving husband, Roger, studied French weekly and spent much time traveling around the world and living in their small apartment in Nice, France. She was so proud of and loved spending time with her loving son, Bryan, and her two beautiful grandchild­ren, Fiona and Brennan Diger. She loved doing art projects with them and they called her “Grandma Crafts”.

She was blessed with a big, loving, and supportive family. which she loved dearly.

Bryan, her caring, intelligen­t, and loyal son.

Fiona and Brenny, the funniest and cutest grandchild­ren in the world.

Jeannie, Irene, William, and Ronald, her loving siblings, Eva[deceased] and Douglas[deceased].

All of her loving and supportive nephews and nieces and their wonderful families.

All of her wonderful, close friends

They all brought her so much joy and made her life so blessed.
