49ers’ exec named Jags’ assistant GM

The Jacksonvil­le Jaguars formally hired Ethan Waugh as assistant general manager.

Waugh, rumored to be in line for the job for more than a month, worked alongside current Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke for a dozen seasons (2005-16) with the 49ers.

Waugh most recently served as San Francisco’s vice president of player personnel (202122) following three seasons as the team’s director of college scouting and football systems.

⏩ The Los Angeles Chargers signed defensive lineman Morgan Fox. Fox spent five seasons with the Rams (2016-20) before going to Carolina last year.

⏩ The Philadelph­ia Eagles agreed on a one-year contract with former New York Giants cornerback James Bradberry. College football: Ohio State is hiking Ryan Day’s annual salary to $9.5 million as part of a two-year contract extension that will put him among the nation’s highest-paid coaches.

Soccer: Eintracht Frankfurt’s 42-year wait for a European title ended with a 5-4 penalty shootout win over Rangers in the Europa League final in Seville, Spain. Rafael Borre converted the decisive penalty kick after Kevin Trapp saved Aaron Ramsey’s shot, giving the German club its first European trophy since the 1980 UEFA Cup.

⏩ In MLS, Robin Lod scored in the 87th minute to help host Minnesota United earn a 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy. Hockey: Sweden prevailed in a penalty shootout to edge host Finland 3-2 in Tampere for its fourth straight victory at the world championsh­ip.

Mental health: Breyon Jackson, a basketball player at San Francisco State, was a recipient of the first annual CalHOPE Courage Award, recognizin­g student-athletes at California colleges and universiti­es who have overcome the stress, anxiety and mental trauma associated with personal hardships, injury or life circumstan­ces.

Julia Shwayder, a lacrosse player at Occidental College, won the women’s award, for which Academy of Art University’s Alisha Wilson (basketball and track) was a finalist.
