New Pier 80 music festival coming in fall
San Francisco is set to get another major music festival when the first Portola Music Festival, produced by the promotion company behind the Coachella Valley Music and Arts and Stagecoach music festivals in Southern California, comes to Pier 80 this fall.
Set to take place Sept. 24-25, the twoday concert is expected to feature a constellation of electronic music artists, including headliners Flume and Chemical Brothers, alongside acts like the East Bay’s own Toro y Moi as well as James Blake, Kaytranada, Jamie xx,
Jungle, Charli XCX,
Caroline Polachek,
Caribou, Fatboy
Slim and many others.
The festival — which pays tribute to the Portola Festival of 1909, marking San Francisco’s comeback following the 1906 earthquake — is presented by Goldenvoice, which also operates the Warfield, Regency Ballroom, Great American Music Hall, Mountain Winery and Frost Amphitheater.
“This is the festival I’ve wanted to produce for the past decade,” Danny Bell, a talent buyer for Goldenvoice, said in a statement. “San Francisco is the perfect city for it and now is the perfect time.”
Other artists scheduled to perform include San Jose-born DJ Shadow, Yves Tumor, Omar Apollo, Yaeji, Channel Tres, Slowthai, Kelly Lee Owens, Shygirl and the Range.
The performances at the Portola Music Festival will take place inside tents, a 400,000-square-foot warehouse and the main stage, according to the promoter, with the San Francisco skyline serving as the backdrop from Pier 80.
There will also be local food offerings, alongside craft beer, wine and cocktails, with vendors to be announced later.
Tickets for the Portola Music Festival, priced from $199.95 to $399.95, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, at www.port olamusicfestival.com.
