Oakland man arrested over 3 attacks in S.F.
San Francisco police arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with separate violent attacks on three women this month, officials said.
Deandre Johnson of Oakland is suspected of assaulting, kidnapping, intending to commit rape and other crimes following three attacks in a 10-hour span, San Francisco police said Tuesday on Twitter.
In the first incident, on May 7, Johnson assaulted a 28-year-old woman who was walking alone shortly after 3 p.m. in the area of Sunnydale Avenue and Desmond Street in Visitacion Valley, officials said. Johnson was behaving erratically and yelling incoherently and followed the woman after she crossed the street to avoid him, according to police.
He grabbed the woman, put a hand over her throat to keep her from breathing, shoved her to the ground and strangled her until she lost consciousness, police said. A witness interrupted the assault and Johnson ran away, officials said.
Several hours later, just after midnight the next day, Johnson attacked an 18-year-old woman in the area of Polk and Willow streets in the Tenderloin, officials said. The woman was able to “fight him off,” police said in a tweet.
An hour after that incident, Johnson attacked and attempted to kidnap a 75-year-old woman near the intersection of Market Street and Van Ness Avenue. Police said Johnson intended to rape the woman. Officers saw Johnson, chased him on foot and arrested him, police said.
Johnson was booked into San Francisco County Jail the morning of May 8 on charges of kidnapping to commit rape, elder abuse, assault with intent to commit rape, battery and two counts of resisting arrest.
“Thank you to the bystanders, witnesses that got involved!” police said in a tweet.
