Vandersloo­t’s late 3 ices Chicago victory

Courtney Vandersloo­t scored 18 points, three on a last-seconds buzzer-beater, to help the host Chicago Sky edge the Minnesota Lynx 88-85 in the WNBA.

Chicago inbounded in the frontcourt with 7.6 seconds to go. Vandersloo­t attempted to drive the right side, was stopped and handed off to Emma Meesseman, got the ball back and hit the winning shot from about 25 feet.

Meesseman scored 15 points, Candace Parker 13, Rebekah Gardner 12 and Allie Quigley and Julie Allemand 11 each for the Sky (13-5). Vandersloo­t added six assists and five rebounds.

⏩ Courtney Williams scored 17 points, Alyssa Thomas added 15 and visiting Connecticu­t held Atlanta to one field goal in the final seven minutes, defeating the Dream 72-61.

Soccer: Cristian Arango and Diego Palacios scored three minutes apart in the second half as host Los Angeles FC pulled away for a 2-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls. MLS-leading LAFC improved to 10-3-3 with its fourth shutout of the season . ... Cory Burke’s goal lifted the Philadelph­ia Union to a 2-1 victory over visiting New York City FC . ... Motor sports: Mike Salinas won the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, to take the Top Fuel points lead from Brittany Force. Salinas won for the fourth time this season and seventh overall, beating Josh Hart in the final with a 3.706-second run at a track-record 333.58 mph.

Robert Hight won in Funny Car, Erica Enders in Pro Stock and Angelle Sampey in Pro Stock Motorcycle in the 10th of 22 events in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season.

⏩ Filipe Albuquerqu­e gave Wayne Taylor Racing its third consecutiv­e IMSA sports car victory by holding off rival Acura team Meyer Shank Racing in the six-hour endurance race at Watkins Glen Internatio­nal in New York.
