Steven Lee Haley, 72, of Daly City, California, lost his cancer battle on Wednesday Oct. 26, 2022, at the Veterans Hospital in San Francisco. This day marked the 28th anniversary of his son’s death, Christopher Haley, who died tragically on Wednesday Oct. 26, 1994, less than a mile from the V.A. Hospital, at Eagle’s Point.

As Elvis Presley’s, “How Great Thou Art,” tenderly echoed in Steven’s ocean view ICU room, he passed peacefully amongst the presence of family, friends, and hospital staff-family.

Steven was born to Catherine and Ira Haley, but was raised in Oakland by his mother, Catherine. He attended Saint Elizabeth High School in Oakland & St. Mary’s College in Moraga. He was married to Anthoula Paschildou, who blessed him with his royal pair, son and daughter, Christopher and Ruth Haley.

Major Steven Lee Haley was an artillery field man, serving the United States Army for over 20 years. After military life, he transitioned to a service to others focused life, where he helped everyone and anyone he could. He volunteered at many organizations like Meals on Wheels, Little Brothers, Pathways Home and Hospice, Gift of Love Hospice, Community San Dimas, just to name a few! He also worked at the Oak’s Card Club in Emeryville, as a professional poker player, managing to find a way to turn his hobby into a career!

He was a very active member in his parish,

St. Thomas More, in San Francisco. He was a Eucharistic Minister delivering the Eucharist at church, homes, and hospitals. He advocated for his parish in every manner, volunteering for fundraisers, transporting parishioners to and from church, even helping parishioners do laundry! You name it, he did it! He even was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was the living, breathing, message of Christ, service to others!

He is survived by his daughter, Ruth, and his 3 grandchildren, Noah, Zechariah, and ‘Isa, his son in law Achraf, and countless loving family members he adored (wish all could be mentioned). A.K.A, Uber Grandpa, he loved his grandchildren dearly, interacting in every aspect of their lives from driver to movie buddies!

Steven Haley was a very special man. So much of his time on this planet he devoted to helping others. Want to do something nice in his honor? Help someone! If you do, his spirit will be right with you in the gesture!
