Brink has triple-double in Stanford win

-

Cameron Brink had 16 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 10 blocked shots Sunday for her first triple-double to lead No. 3 Stanford to a 62-54 win over Oregon, the Cardinal’s 21st straight Pac-12 home win.

Brink swatted seven of those shots in the first half and got her last one when she altered a jumper by Chance Gray with 3:16 to go. It’s the first triple-double in NCAA Division I major women’s basketball featuring double-digit blocks since Tamari Key did it for Tennessee in an overtime win against Texas on Nov. 21, 2021.

“Cam is just scratching the surface of how good she can be,” Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer said. “On a scale of 1 to 10, obviously a triple-double is awesome but she’s a 5 of where she can be. She’s making great strides. And I mean that as a compliment because she’s got so much upside.”

Stanford (21-2, 9-1 Pac-12) led 46-37 heading into the final 10 minutes then pulled away with a quick 7-2 spurt.

For Oregon (14-7, 5-5), Phillipina Kyei had 12 points and 17 rebounds, Gray added 12 points and Grace VanSlooten scored 11. Cal 64, Oregon State 62: Evelien Lutje Schipholt’s basket with 45 seconds left gave the host Bears (11-10, 2-8) the lead and the Beavers (11-10, 3-7) missed their three shots afterward as Cal ended its six-game losing streak.

Jayda Curry scored 21 points, Lutje Schipholt added 12 and Leilani McIntosh had 11 for the Bears, who overcame an eightpoint fourth-quarter deficit.

Bendu Yeaney scored 16 points and Talio von Oelhoffen had 12 for Oregon State.

“Every single game we’ve played, we felt like we were right there,” Lutje Schipholt said. “We felt like we’re just about to turn that corner and then start rolling. We said, ‘today was the day.’ ... And today was the day.”
