Stanford, Cal men fall in Pac-12 road matchups

Tristan da Silva scored 25 points and KJ Simpson added 21 to lead host Colorado to a 84-64 win over Stanford on Sunday night and snap the Cardinal’s five-game winning streak.

Da Silva, who has scored at least 20 points in five straight games, shot 9-for-14 from the field, including 3-for-4 from 3point range. Simpson was 11for-11 from the foul line for the Buffaloes (14-11, 6-8 Pac-12).

Stanford (10-13, 4-8) missed its first 10 second-half field-goal attempts and went scoreless after the break until Spencer Jones made a layup with 12:46 to play.

Da Silva scored six points before Julian Hammond III and Luke O’Brien made back-toback 3-pointers to cap a 16-0 run to open the second period and give the Buffaloes a 55-39 lead.

Brandon Angel led Stanford with 14 points and Jones fouled out with 13 points and two steals. Maxime Raynaud and Michael Jones added 10 points apiece. Utah 61, Cal 46: Lazar Stefanovic scored 15 points and Branden Carlson had 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead the host Utes (16-9, 9-5 Pac-12) past the Bears

(3-20, 2-10).

Cal didn’t make a field goal for the first six-plus minutes of the second half and Utah ripped off a 12-1 run — including a pair of 3s by Carlson — to make it 41-25 with 14 minutes to play. The Bears trailed by double figures the rest of the way.

Lars Thiemann led Cal with 12 points and Kuany Kuany had 11.

Saturday

Santa Clara 83, USF 70: Carlos Stewart scored 25 points and Brandin Podziemski had 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Broncos (17-8, 5-5) topped the host Dons (15-11, 4-7).

Khalil Shabazz scored 31 points to lead USF. San Jose State 84, Wyoming 64: Omari Moore scored 29 points, Sage Tolbert added 14 and Alvaro Cardenas Torre had 13 as the host Spartans (14-9, 5-5 Mountain West) beat the Cowboys (7-15, 2-8).

Cal stumbles against Washington State

Charlisse Legler-Walker scored 12 of her 25 points in the third quarter as Washington State erased a halftime deficit en route to a 70-60 victory over visiting Cal.

The Bears (11-12, 2-10 Pac-12) led 28-26 at halftime before the Cougars (16-7, 6-6) used a 22-11 third-quarter advantage to seize control. Cal got within 61-56 in the fourth quarter but no closer.

Kemery Martin scored 11 points to lead the Bears.

Saturday

#17 Gonzaga 78, USF 56: Kaylynne Truong scored 27 points as the Bulldogs (22-3, 12-1 WCC) beat the Dons (15-9, 5-7), who were led by Jasmine Gayles’ 14 points.

Portland 80, Santa Clara 68: Tess Heal scored 22 points, but the host Broncos (14-11, 5-7 WCC) fell to the Pilots (18-6, 12-1).

Loyola Marymount 79, St. Mary’s 66: Taycee Wedin scored 18 points to lead the visiting Gaels (11-13, 5-8 WCC), who succumbed as the Lions (6-18, 310) closed with a 15-2 run.
