Roy Martinez, age 91, of San Carlos, San Mateo County, California, passed away surrounded by loving family on February 5, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Roy was born on May 6, 1931 in San Francisco, California to Francisco and Manuela Martinez and spent his youth and school years living in the North Beach Area where he was very involved in baseball and other youth sports. He would later give many hours of his time as a youth baseball coach. He graduated from Galileo High School in 1950 and filled a military assignment for the US Air Force at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base near Tucson, Arizona. North Beach is where he met the love of his life, Ebe Chiocciora, and they were married in San Francisco on June 15, 1952. They made their home in South San Francisco and later moved to San Carlos where they would remain. Roy worked in the food distribution industry his entire career and later as a Marshall at Crystal Springs Golf Course after retirement. Roy and Ebe welcomed three children into their home, Patti, David and Carrie, and the family was complete.

Roy was loyal and passionate about the things he loved. In addition to his family and religious beliefs, those included the San Francisco Giants, the San Francisco 49ers, rock and roll, golfing, marching bands, sourdough bread and the family parrots and dogs. His favorite dog was a beautiful Shiba Inu named Dyna since she was so “dynamite”! He is survived by his loving wife Ebe Chiocciora Martinez, children Patti (Danny) Humrich, David (Cathy) Martinez and Carrie (John) Heer. His life was also blessed with two grandchildren, Matthew Nakatani and Alexandra DiFede; four step-grandchildren, Cody, Derek, Alexa and Chase Heer; and 10 wonderful great grandchildren.
