Ohio St. ends Santa Clara’s win streak; Cal falls to San Diego St.

DESTIN, Fla. — Jamison Battle scored 21 points and Ohio State beat Santa Clara 86-56 in the championsh­ip game of the Emerald Coast Classic on Saturday night in a game it never trailed.

Bruce Thornton scored 13 points and reserves Dale Bonner and Zed Key scored 11 and 10 points respective­ly. The Buckeyes (5-1) shot 52.4% (33 for 63) including 46.4.% (13 for 28) from 3-point range.

Adama Bal, who scored a career-high 25 points in an 88-82 win the night before against Oregon, scored 13 points on 4-for-13 shooting for the Broncos (6-1). Carlos Marshall Jr. and reserve Tyeree Bryan each scored 10 points.

SAN DIEGO ST. 76, CAL 67 (OT)

Jaedon Ledee knocked down a pair of jumpers and Reese Waters was 4-for-4 from the line in overtime and San Diego State hit 9-of-10 free-throw attempts in overtime as the Aztecs beat the Bears in the SoCal Showcase Saturday in San Juan Capistrano.

San Diego State is now 8-6 all-time against the Golden Bears and 3-0 in games played on a neutral court. The Aztecs (5-1) entered the game after winning the 2023 Continenta­l Main Event tournament while Cal (2-5) lost both of its games at the SoCal Classic tournament.

Ledee hit two free throws with 6:15 left to take a 63-54 lead but did not score again in regulation. Rodney Brown Jr. hit back-to-back 3—pointers and Fardaws Aimaq hit 3 of 4 from the line to tie the game with 1:42 left and force overtime.

Jaylon Tyson hit 9 of 21 from the field, including 2 of 10 from distance, to lead the Golden Bears with 23 points before fouling out.

Alijah Martin scored 17 points, Vladislav Goldin had 14, and the Owls beat the Hokies to win the ESPN Events Invitation­al championsh­ip on Sunday at Kissimmee, Fla.

Johnell Davis had 12 points for FAU (5-1). Martin (eight) and Davis (seven) combined for 15 rebounds.

Women NO. 12 TEXAS 76 SOUTH FLORIDA 44

Taylor Jones and Rori Harmon scored 15 points apiece as the unbeaten and 12th-ranked Texas Longhorns routed the Bulls to win a Paradise Jam championsh­ip game at St. Thomas, Virgin Islands on Saturday.

Texas (7-0) held the Bulls to single digits the first three quarters to win the Reef Division.

Yaya Felder scored 16 points and and Sarah Andrews added 15 and the host Bears rolled to a win over the Lady Braves on Sunday.

Aijha Blackwell and Jana Van Gytenbeek added 11 points and five assists each for the Bears (5-0).
