ELO farewell tour includes S.F. show
Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra has announced its farewell tour, set to kick off this summer.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame act plans to embark on the 27-date Over and Out Tour in Palm Desert (Riverside County) in August, with stops scheduled for San Francisco’s Chase Center on Sept. 1, and Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center on Oct. 23.
A Live Nation presale began Thursday, March 21, with the code KEY. General ticket sales begin at 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, via Ticketmaster. Additional presale opportunities for fans are available on the band’s website.
Jeff Lynne initially resurrected his rendition of Electric Light Orchestra in 2018. The original incarnation of the group, formed in 1970, produced chart-topping
hits like “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Evil Woman” and “Don’t Bring Me Down” before disbanding acrimoniously in 1986. His former bandmates continue to tour under the moniker Electric
Light Orchestra Part II.
In the years following the split, Lynne worked as a producer with various artists, including the Traveling Wilburys and a temporarily re-formed Beatles in 1995. He helped record the songs “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love” for the Beatles’ “Anthology” project.
Reflecting on ELO’s comeback, Lynne told the Chronicle in 2018, “It was a gradual thing. I had been
working with all these other people, my heroes as I like to call them, and I hadn’t been doing any of my own work, I realized, for 15 years or something. I wanted another go at it. So I re-formed ELO for that purpose.”
To date, ELO has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide.
