Tierra Whack to headline SFMOMA’s Art Bash

- By Zara Irshad

This year’s Art Bash is about to get a lot whackier.

Philadelphia rapper Tierra Whack is slated to be this year’s main stage act at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s annual charity event on April 24. Other musical acts lined up for this year’s event include DJ Alex Shen from Oakland’s Lower Grand Radio and Bay Area DJ crew Sazon Libre.

“Tierra Whack’s eclectic style and boundary-pushing artistry align perfectly with the vibe we aim to create at Art Bash,” said Kellee Dawkins, SFMOMA’s interim director of events. “Her ever-apparent appreciation of the visual arts and infectious sound made her a perfect fit. We are excited to welcome her to the museum this year.”

both her music videos and her personal style, the Grammynominated musician is no stranger to the world of art. Whack recently released what she refers to as her debut record, “World Wide Whack,” on March 15. Her first full-length release since her 2018 “Whack World,” the 15-track record was accompanied with a handful of bold and eccentric music videos, true to her playful and absurd style.

“It’s all about how something makes me feel. I start, and a pattern starts to form, but it’s just how I feel,” the artist said of “World Wide Whack” in March during an interview with Complex.

Past performers at the charity event have included Los Angeles all-girl punk band the Linda Lindas; singer-songwriter Amber Mark; Bay Area resident, producer and musician Toro y Moi, who did a DJ set; and R&B singer Solange.

Tickets for the 21-and-older event, which start at $95, are available for purchase online. Proceeds go to SFMOMA’s education and family programs and community engagement events that benefit more than 150,000 people annually.
