Oakland police officers fatally shot a 32-year-old man suspected in a homicide investigation who allegedly emerged from a residence with a gun, the department said Thursday.

The shooting occurred about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on 16th Street near Market Street.

Police didn’t say how many officers shot the man, who they said was suspected in a homicide in Sacramento.

The man, identified as Dominique Broadt, was wanted in a shooting that left a woman dead on

March 3, according to the Sacramento Police Department, which labeled it a case of domestic violence. The woman’s name was not released.

Two days after the homicide, Sacramento police asked the public to help find Broadt.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sacramento police alerted Oakland police to the investigation and asked for “assistance in arresting the homicide suspect,” Oakland police Capt. Robert Muniz said.

“Oakland police officers arrived on scene and as they began securing the area and requesting additional resources, the suspect emerged from the residence with the firearm,” the department said in a statement. “Oakland police officers discharged their service firearm, fatally striking the suspect.”

No officers were injured during the incident. The department said the shooting is under investigation by the department’s homicide investigators, internal affairs division and Oakland’s Community Police Review Agency, the investigative arm of the police commission.
