Online: Jets have no positive tests, game with Arizona will be played.

-

All New York Jets players and coaches have tested negative for COVID-19, and Sunday’s game against Arizona will be played on time.

The Jets posted a statement on social media Friday night, hours after their training facility was closed due to a presumptive positive coronavirus test for one player.

The league has had 60 cases since testing began in which one player or staff member tested positive and there wasn’t further transmission among the team. By sending everyone home from the facility Friday morning, the Jets took the appropriate steps under the NFL/ NFLPA COVID-19 protocols. And then the 100% negative tests were announced in the evening.

COWBOYS LT SMITH OUT FOR YEAR >> Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith is having season- ending neck surgery, another blow to a Dallas offensive line that will be without both starting tackles for the rest of the year.

Coach Mike McCarthy said Smith’s injury was a “correctable situation,” but didn’t get into any timelines on when the seventime Pro Bowler might be ready in the offseason.

Smith injured his neck in practice the week after the opener and missed two games before returning and playing all 82 snaps in last week’s 49-38 loss to Cleveland.

NBA RETURNING TO CHINESE STATE TELEVISION >> The NBA is returning to Chinese state television after a one-year absence.

CCTV announced that it would air Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat — the first time that the league would appear on the network since the rift that started when Houston Rockets general manager Dar yl Morey tweeted support for antigovernment protesters in Hong Kong.

CCT V quickly halted its relationship with the NBA after Morey’s tweet, even though the post was quickly deleted. Given the timing, it appears the suspension of NBA coverage by that network was designed to last one year; CCTV announced on Oct. 8, 2019, that it was beginning an immediate investigation into its relationship with the NBA, stemming from the network being “strongly dissatisfied” over the league’s decision to not sanction Morey.
