Going on their eighth year, the California Grill and Bar in Watsonvill­e has its own very special niche that serves it and its patrons well. The popular restaurant is owned by Dick Peixoto, who is also Lakeside Organic Gardens’ owner/grower, headquarte­red in Watsonvill­e.

Peixoto got his start in Agricultur­e at 10, riding around local farms in the Pajaro Valley with his Dad, a pesticide salesman. While still attending Watsonvill­e High School, Peixoto rented 40 acres and started farming on his own. In 1996, after farming convention­ally for 20 years, he transition­ed the land to organic and formed Lakeside Organic Gardens. Today, Lakeside grows 45 different varieties of organic produce on over 3,000 acres in California. Peixoto personally walks his fields daily to guarantee his organic vegetables are held to the highest quality and food safety standards.

The California Bar and Grill features Lakeside Organic Garden’s locally grown organic vegetables, other local farmer’s fruits and vegetables, locally processed meats, fresh locally sourced seafood, and healthy meal options. “We feature local produce grown right here in our fields. It’s a true farm-fresh difference, “says Peixoto.

It’s likely the produce on your plate was picked fresh from Lakeside Organic Gardens just hours before it was prepared for you. Daily specials and desserts reflect the cycle of the seasons so you can experience flavors at their peak. California Grill and Bar is located at 40 Penny Lane in Watsonvill­e.
