High court agrees to hear NCAA athlete compensation case.
For the first time in more than three decades, the Supreme Court will hear a case involving the NCAA and what it means to be a college athlete.
T he high court on Wednesday agreed to review a court decision in an antitrust lawsuit the NCAA has said blurred “the line between student-athletes and professionals” by removing caps on compensation that major college football and basketball players can receive.
The case will be argued in 2021 with a decision expected before the end of June. The last time the Supreme Court heard an NCAA case was 1984. NCAA vs. the Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma changed the way college football could be broadcast on television, setting the stage of billiondollar media rights contracts and conference realignment.

During a teleconference call that replaced the usual December gathering of owners in Dallas, they opted to push back any move on the expanded season until early in 2021. The most unusual college football season in memory brought the convergence Wednesday of the start of the early signing period with the end of the regular season, which includes 10 conference championship games this weekend.
According to 247 Sports’ composite player rankings, there are 34 five-stars recruits in the class of 2021.
As of late Wednesday afternoon, Alabama had signed five of them and was expected to land at least one more. Ohio State landed five five- stars, including defensive end Jack Sawyer from nearby Pickerington North High School.

The statistics and records of greats like Gibson, Paige and roughly 3,400 other players are set to join Major League Baseball’s books after MLB announced it is reclassifying the Negro Leagues as a major league.
MLB said Wednesday it was “correcting a longtime oversight in the game’s history” by elevating the Negro Leagues on the centennial of its founding. The Negro Leagues consisted of seven leagues, and MLB will include records from those circuits between 1920- 48. The Negro Leagues began to dissolve one year after Jackie Robinson became MLB’s first Black player with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that officials from the commissioner’s office had a meeting with managers Tuesday and expressed optimism about opening spring camps as scheduled.
“That message has been fairly consistent,” Cash said. “We’ll continue to plan and prepare until if we are told otherwise.”

QUAKES LOSE HOESEN IN MLS EXPANSION DRAFT >> San Jose Earthquakes forward Danny Hoesen was among five players selected by Austin FC during the 2020 MLS expansion draft on Tuesday .
Hoesen, 29, was out of contract following the 2020 season and was not tendered a Bona Fide Offer. He tallied 23 goals and 12 assists in 104 appearances (64 starts) since joining the team in 2017. Hoesen made just eight appearances in 2020, missing the final two months of the season after having surgery to repair oblique and adductor muscle tears.
