Chris Wondolowsk­i, Major League Soccer’s career scoring leader, signed a oneyear contract to remain with the San Jose Earthquake­s.

The 37-year-old forward scored a team-high seven goals during the 2020 regular season to extend his career record to 166.

“While the pandemic has caused so much pain throughout the world, it’s also given me an opportunit­y to reflect on the things I value the most,” Wondolowsk­i said in a statement Friday.

“I was fully committed to making 2020 the final year of my career, but I’ve reconsider­ed and can’t wait to join my teammates one more time as we look to bring an MLS Cup back to San Jose.”

Wondolowsk i hold s nearly every MLS scoring record. He was drafted by the Earthquake­s in 2005 and ranks first in team history in appearance­s, starts and minutes. In the last 11 seasons, the California­n has been the club’s leading scorer every year but 2018.

BOSTON CELTICS HALL OF FAMER K.C. JONES DIES AT 88 >> Basketball Hall of Famer K.C. Jones, who won eight NBA championsh­ips as a Celtics player in the 1960s and two more as the coach of the Boston teams that took the title in 1984 and ‘86, has died. He was 88.

The Celtics said Jones’ family confirmed Friday that he died at an assistant living facility in Connecticu­t, where he had been receiving care for Alzheimer’s disease for the past several

years.

Jones joined with Bill Russell to lead San Francisco to back-to-back NCAA championsh­ips in 195556. The two also played on the U.S. team that won the Olympic gold medal at the 1956 Games in Melbourne.

BROUSSARD, JEFFERSON HEADLINE ALL-PAC-12 TEAM >> Colorado’s Jarek Broussard ran for 301 yards in one game and averaged more than six yards per carry. Oregon State’s Jermar Jefferson averaged more than 145 yards per game and scored seven touchdowns.

The two dynamic running backs may not have been able to play a full season due to the coronaviru­s pandemic, but certainly made the most of their limited touches.

Broussard and Jefferson were voted co-offensive players of the year by a media panel in The Associated Press All-Pac-12 team released Friday.

safety Talanoa Hufanga was named defensive player of the year, Colorado’s Karl Dorrell was coach of the year and Utah freshman running back Ty Jordan was newcomer of the year.

Stanford receiver Simi Fehoko and center Drew Dalman made the first-team offense.

Left tackle Jack Snyder, a graduate student out of Marin Catholic, was named the ProFootbal­lFocus.com Player of the Year in the Mountain West Conference on Thursday. A firstteam All-Mountain West selection this season, Snyder was the only lineman to be named a Conference Player of the Year in any of the 10 FBS conference­s by ProFootbal­lFocus.

Defensive tackle Cade Hall, a junior from Bellarmine Prep in San Jose, also earned recognitio­n for his outstandin­g play this season as he was named a second-team All-America selection by USA Today. Hall was the Mountain West Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year as he’s posted 10.0 sacks and 12.0 tackles for loss.

College basketball NO. 9 WISCONSIN BEATS NO. 12 MICHIGAN STATE 85-76 >>

D’Mitrk Trice scored a season-high 29 points, lifting No. 9 Wisconsin to a 85-76 win over No. 12 Michigan State on Friday.

The Badgers (8-1, 2- 0 Big Ten) won at the Breslin Center for the first time since 2004 and extended their Big Ten winning streak to 10 games, dating to last season when they shared the conference championsh­ip with the Spartans and Maryland.

Michigan State (6-2, 0-2) trailed by two points before Wisconsin scored 14 of the last 21 points over the final 4:03 to turn a closely contested game into a lopsided result.

DUKE WOMEN END SEASON >> The Duke women’s basketball team has ended its season amid the coronaviru­s pandemic, according to a person familiar with the situation. The men’s basketball team planned to continue playing.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Friday on condition of anonymity because the school has not publicly announced the decision.

The Duke women’s basketball team has been on pause since Dec. 16 because of two positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing within the program’s travel party.
