Anti-mask protesters were foolish and selfish City needs to put brakes on high-density building

-

The piece on anti-mask protesters at the farmers market left me at first dismayed, then enraged. These people are both foolish, in ignoring medical advice to remain safe during a pandemic, and selfish, in demanding a privilege that threatens the rest of us with infection. They refuse offers of help in shopping and claim to be falsely imprisoned by being denied the opportunity to do as they please. In the process they mount a new threat on the market, which already faces eviction by the taj garage. Do they also picket Safeway, Staff of

Life, Nob Hill, or any of the indoor groceries, all of which demand masks? Of course not; that would make them look even sillier, while maintaining the need to keep Santa Cruz weird and perhaps incurring legal action.

I read with interest the Letter to the Editor Sunday regarding how many housing units are slated to be built in Santa Cruz. While all these units were being approved, did anyone take the time to add up how many units were actually approved? I did: 434 condos and 999 apartments.

I am not against anything, but I am for preserving what we have here now, the feel of a small town. What the city is letting happen is called high-density building and lack of good planning. The city needs to put the brakes on these plans and revisit the number of units they have approved. This is not right for our small community.
