Mason Carlton, Soquel, Sr.: As a sophomore, Indianabound senior finished fourth in the CCS — and 10th in the state — in the 500 freestyle.
Dane Warren, Soquel, Sr.: He showed promise in the 50 and 100 freestyles as a sophomore and will finally get a shot to excel this year.
Nic Friedley, Aptos, Sr.: The transfer student has already emerged as the Mariners’ top swimmer in a program having a down year numbers-wise.
Eddie Vargas, St. Francis, Sr.: Should represent the PCAL schools well in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
Henry Kiesby, Scotts Valley, Jr.: Versatile swimmer could contend for SCCAL titles in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.
Austin Vera, Santa Cruz, Jr.: Having qualified for the CCS meet as a freshman, butterflier finally has a shot at a breakthrough year.
Hunter Houston, Monte Vista Christan, Jr.: Relatively new to the sport, he has “made huge strides” since joining the Mustangs last year, coach Michele Turner said. Sam Levy, Pacific Collegiate, Sr.: The Pumas’ school record-holder in the 100 breaststroke is also expected to perform well in middle-distance freestyle races. Matthew Elliot, Soquel, So.: Knights coach Jarret Winter calls him “All-America-caliber” in the 200 individual medley and “really strong” in the 100 butterfly.
Conall Barber, Harbor, So.: Already a leader for a young Pirates squad, he should be competitive in the butterfly and the breaststroke.
