Aptos knocks off Scotts Valley
Soquel blanks MVC, remains unbeaten
Juliet Sweet, Autumn Zaretsky and Madison James earned singles wins for the Aptos High girls tennis team in its 6-1 win over Scotts Valley in the teams’ Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League match on Wednesday.
Sweet beat Veronica Farquhar 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot, Zaretsky beat Emma Dyc-O’Neil 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, and James won 6-0, 6-0 over Livia Johnston at No. 4.
Aptos improved to 3-1 overall.
Senior Helen Elmer earned the lone win for the Falcons (2-2) at No. 1 singles, beating Rebecca Fuller 1-6, 7-5, 10-7.
The Mariners’ doubles teams of Annika Lee and Holly Hegna (6-1, 6-1), Santana Rigor and Madison Phillips (6-2, 6-3), and Chloe Chausse and Ashley Lavender (6-1, 6-2) won their matches in straight sets.
AT SOQUEL 7, MONTE VISTA CHRISTIAN 0 >> Maya Van Ness beat Kayleigh Bajara 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 at No. 1 singles to help the Knights (40) remain unbeaten in SCCAL play Wednesday.
No. 2 singles player Isla Garcia-McDougall (61, 6-1), No. 3 Hana Blaustein (6-2, 6-1), and No. 4 Ella Summerville (6-0, 6-1)
earned straight-sets wins.
Soquel also swept the double competition behind the teams of No. 1 Bridget Summerville and Mariah Montanez (6-4, 6-1), No. 2 Alana Riling and Mia Tomaino (6-0, 6-1), and No. 3 Cassie Sears and Kaia Evulich (6-1, 6-1).
AT SOQUEL 4, APTOS 3 >> No. 1 Maya Van Ness, No. 2 Isla Garcia-McDougall, No. 3 Hana Blaustein won their singles matches as the Knights (3-0) knocked the Mariners (2-1) from the unbeaten ranks Tuesday.
Blaustein prevailed 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 over Autumn Zaretsky. Van Ness and Garcia-McDougall won their matches in straight sets.
Aptos’ Madison James knocked off Ella Summerville 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Alana Riling and Mia Tomaino won 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) at No. 2 doubles for the Knights, beating Santana Rigor and Madison Phillips.
No.1 Annika Lee and Holly Hegna and No. 3 Taylor Hilger and Ashley Lavender won their doubles matches for the Mariners.
