Parrish receives top seed at trials

Scotts Valley High alumna won 2019 US Senior Nationals title in women’s freestyle

Scotts Valley’s Dominique Parrish, aka Domino, was awarded the No. 1 seed at 53 kilograms Tuesday, when seeds for the women’s freestyle division of the 2021 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team Trials were released.

The Trials take place Friday and Saturday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

Trials champions become eligible to represent the U.S. at the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo on Aug. 1-7.

Other No. 1 seeds include Whitney Conder (50 kg), Jenna Burkert (57 kg), Maya Nelson (62 kg), Forrest Molinari (68 kg) and Dymond Guilford (76 kg).

Six wrestlers, including Jacarra Winchester (53 kg), didn’t receive seeds and will sit out until the best-of-three finals. Other unseeded athletes include Sarah Hildebrand­t (50 kg), Helen Maroulis (57 kg), Kayla Miracle (62 kg), Tamyra Mensah-Stock (68 kg) and Adeline Gray (76 kg). Mensah-Stock and Gray are sitting out due to winning 2019 World medals. Hildebrand­t, Winchester, Maroulis and Miracle are sitting out after qualifying their weights for the Olympics at the 2020 Pan American Olympic Qualifier.
