Community helps identify alleged jewelry store burglar
With help from the community, the Santa Cruz Police Department arrested a man believed to be connected to a burglary earlier this week at Super Silver Jewelry on Pacific Avenue.
A community member, according to police, recognized the suspect and notified the department. Patrol officers completed further investigation into the suspect’s identity and confirmed the suspect as 34-year-old Gregory Richard Burros, a Santa Cruz County resident.
Officers responded Wednesday morning to a commercial burglary at Super Silver Jewelry, a store in the 1300 block of Pacific Avenue. Responding officers discovered the front window of the business had been smashed and several items of jewelry had been stolen. The loss to the business is still to be tallied, but it is estimated to be tens of thousands of dollars.
Thursday morning, officers of the Santa Cruz Police Department’s Neighborhood Policing Team spotted a vehicle in the 100 block of Doyle Street believed to be associated with Burros and subsequently contacted and arrested him.
Santa Cruz Police Detectives are looking into possible connections between Burros and other burglaries in the immediate area.
The Santa Cruz Police Department is asking anyone with information about this case to contact Santa Cruz Police Department Detective Trevor Kendall at 831-420-5963 or leave the information on the Crime Tip Line at 831-420-5995.
