UCSC women’s volleyball team sees win streak snapped at 14

The No. 20 nationally ranked UC Santa Cruz women’s volleyball team saw its 14-match win streak came to an end in its 2523, 18-25, 25-19, 24-26, 1510 loss to the No. 7 Colorado College in the Pikes Peak Challenge in Colorado Springs on Friday afternoon.

Samantha Taylor had 17 kills to lead UCSC (15-2), Claire Okerlund added 10 kills, and Sinead Beaupain had 29 assists. Gio Martins led the Banana Slugs with 19 digs, Sinead Beaupain

had 17 digs, and Lauren Bliss had 16.

UCSC 3, CORNELL 0 » Senior outside hitter Claire Okerlund had eight kills, eight digs and three digs in the No. 20 Banana Slugs’ 25-14, 25-17, 27-25 win to open the Pikes Peak Challenge on Friday in Colorado Springs.

Beaupain 14 assists, 10 digs and six aces for UCSC (15-1), and freshman setter Lauren Bliss had 15 assists. AT CABRILLO 3, DE ANZA 0 » The Seahawks earned a 25-21, 25-22, 25-12 sweep in their Coast Conference crossover match Friday.

The Seahawks (7-5, 3-1) host Hartnell (10-8, 3-1) in North Division action Monday at 6:30 p.m.

CABRILLO 2, AT WEST VALLEY 1 » The Seahawks scored twice in the first 20 minutes and held on for the win Friday.

Jael Leal scored on a pass from Eric A. Vazquez in the ninth minute and Maxence Huin made it 2-0 when he converted a pass from Brie Baptiste.

The Seahawks (5-2-1, 2-10) host Modesto (5-5-1) in nonconfere­nce action Monday at 4 p.m.
