Soquel girls water polo loses in NorCal Invitation­al semis

Kirby shocks Greenfield in PCAL volleyball

Soquel High’s No. 3 state ranked girls water polo team suffered its first loss in 15 matches Saturday, falling to No. 1 Miramonte of Orinda 14-10 in the NorCal Invitation­al semifinals at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton.

It was the teams’ second meeting this season. The Matadors (20-0) edged the Knights 7-6 in Orinda on Sept. 18.

No. 4 Davis (23-2) and No. 2 SHP (16-1) played in the second semifinal later Saturday.

The Knights (20-2 overall) beat San Ramon Valley 12-1 and Leland 15-6 in pool play Friday.

Senior Kelsey Matthies and junior Quinn Healy each scored five goals in Soquel’s win over SRV (10-11). Senior Deijah Stephens and sophomore Summer Stelck also scored. Sophomore Kayla Matthies made five of the Knights’ 18 steals.

Kelsey Matthies also scored five goals and had five steals against Leland (14-6). Healy added three goals, Kayla Matthies and Stephens scored twice, and Stelck, Olivia Harris and Addison Lane added goals.

The Knights repeated as Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League champion Thursday in Santa Cruz.

Girls volleyball

AT KIRBY 3, GREENFIELD 1 >> Junior setter Anna Shelton had 18 kills, 29 assists, 15 digs, eight aces, and three blocks, and the Griffins shocked the previously unbeaten Bruins 17-25, 2521, 25-23, 25-20 on Friday.

Greenfield dropped to

12-1 in the PCAL Arroyo Division.

Senior outside hitter Sarah Culver had 14 kills, 22 digs and nine aces for the Griffins (11-2).

Senior libero Jamie Sakuma made 30 digs, nine assists and seven aces for Kirby, which hosts York at Mount Hermon gymnasium on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

AT SOQUEL 3, MOUNT MADONNA 1 >> Senior outside hitter Ciara Cantlen had 17 kills and two blocks to lead the Knights to a 25-16, 2225, 25-12, 25-20 win in SCCAL play Thursday night.

Jessie Dueck had seven kills for the Knights (17-4, 11-1) and Carmella Muccilli and Maddy Petersen each had six kills. Maya Ramirez and Natalie Kamalani each had five kills.

Soquel, the regular-season champion, hosts an opponent to be determined in the second round of the SCCAL Tournament on Tuesday night.

Women’s soccer

CABRILLO 5, AT FOOTHILL 0 >> Madelyn Park assisted goals from Aubree Westjohn and Yohanna Limon in the opening six minutes and the Seahawks rolled to the Coast Conference South Division win Friday.

Jasmine Taylor made it 3-0 in the 29th minute and Elyanna Magdaleno scored twice in the second half.

Natalia Jimenez-Ortiz and Limon also recorded assists for the Seahawks (7-2-4, 4-0-2), who play at West Valley (7-7-2, 3-2-1) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Foothill dropped to 3-80, 1-3-0.

Men’s soccer

DE ANZA 2, AT CABRILLO 1 >> Maxence Huin scored on a pass from Luis Calles Escalante to help the Seahawks avoid being shut out in their Coast Conference

South Division match Friday.

The division leading Dons (9-1-3, 4-0-2) scored in the third and 38th minutes.

Goalie Daniel MedinaDiaz made two saves for the Seahawks (7-3-1, 3-20). De Anza made six saves.

Cabrillo, which had its four-match win streak snapped, plays at Chabot (0-12-0) in a cross-conference match in Hayward on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Men’s golf

KORN FERRY TOUR QSCHOOL >> Aptos’ Eddie Olson missed the cut to advance from the second stage of Korn Ferry Tour Q-School on Friday.

The cut was 9-under 279 at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta. Olson finished with a 6-under 282 total after firing rounds of 7373-69-67.

Matt Picanso of Irvine shot a 17-under 271 total for medalist honors. Former Stevenson School standout Skyler Finnell (279) was among the 13 players in the field of 69 who advanced.
