Shane Modena (Aptos), Whitworth (Wash.), So.: The linebacker tied for the team lead in tackles, including one for loss, on Oct. 23 in the Pirates’ 66-7 victory over Willamette (Ore.).

Scott Tinsley (Monte Vista Christian), Redlands, Jr.:

Named the Southern California Intercolle­giate Athletic Conference’s Defensive Athlete of the Week on Oct. 18 after his 10-tackle, two-intercepti­on performanc­e against Pomona-Pitzer, the strong safety made another intercepti­on and four tackles in the Bulldogs’ 28-23 homecoming win over Chapman on Oct. 23.

Mark Carling (San Lorenzo Valley), Pomona-Pitzer, Sr.: The defensive lineman recorded five tackles last Saturday in the Sagehens’ 27-14 loss to Chapman.

Women’s soccer

Lauren Inman (Aptos), Cal State East Bay, Sr.: The defender blasted home a penalty kick in the 48th minute last Friday, breaking a 1-1 tie to propel the Pioneers to a 3-1 triumph over San Francisco State.

Men’s cross country Raymond Brookman (Santa Cruz), MIT, Fr.:

Brookman placed 15th out of 95 runners at Saturday’s New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference championsh­ips, posting a time of 26 minutes, 0.13 seconds on an 8,000-meter course in Wellesley, Mass. He also earned a ring as a member of MIT’s conference title-winning squad.

Oct. 23 in San Marcos, clocking in with a time of 21:54.0.

Abbey Meck (SLV), Santa Clara, Jr.: Following a stellar performanc­e at the Oct. 16 Bronco Invitation­al in which she ran the fourth-fastest time in SCU history (20:41.7), Meck was the Broncos’ highest-placing finisher at last Friday’s 6,000-meter West Coast Conference championsh­ips in Concord, coming in 27th out of 94 runners at 21:49.9.

Women’s volleyball

McKinley Fox (Santa Cruz native/Santa Catalina), Marist College (N.Y.), Sr.: The setter moved into tenth place on Marist’s career assist list on Oct. 24 when she dished out 42 in the Red Foxes’ three-set victory over Manhattan. She now ranks eighth with 1,762 and leads the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with 921 on the season, including 45 in the Red Foxes’ five-set win over Rider last Saturday.

Women’s basketball

Michaela Thornton (Soquel), St. Katherine, Sr.: The guard/forward posted a double-double on Oct. 23 in the Firebirds’ 77-53 victory over Southweste­rn Assemblies of God University-American Indian College: Thornton scored 10 points, shooting 4-for-4 from the foul line, and grabbed 10 rebounds. Thornton also scored 11 points on Saturday in St. Katherine’s 75-58 loss to the University of Providence (Mont.).

Men’s swimming

Spencer Clarke (Aptos), Fordham (N.Y.), Sr.: Clarke won the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 47.41 seconds, on Oct. 22 in the Rams’ 169-111 victory over Monmouth (N.J.). He also swam the third leg of Fordham’s triumphant 200 freestyle relay.
