SANTA CRUZ `BUFFALO SOLDIER HISTORY TALK' EXPLORES STEWARDSHI­P OF STATE PARKS

On Friday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Museum of Art and History will host a “Buffalo Soldier History Talk” with retired park ranger and Parks and Programs specialist Aniko Kannan-Millan.

The lecture will explore the history of the African American “Buffalo” soldiers that were chosen to safeguard and build necessary infrastruc­ture for the first state parks establishe­d in California.

The soldiers managed the Yosemite, Sequoia and General Grant National Parks and are considered the first park rangers.

LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS FIRST 2023 EXHIBIT AT MOUNTAIN ARTS CENTER

The Mountain Arts Center is currently hosting its first exhibit of 2023, “The View from Here.” The gallery is open from 12p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. The exhibit will feature art inspired by the physical world surroundin­g the artist, whether that physical world is a forest, a city or an ocean.

WHITE ALBUM ENSEMBLE TO PLAY `UNPLUGGED'

On Friday at 8 p.m., the White Album Ensemble will play “Unplugged,” a collection of Beatles love songs.

This Valentine's weekend concert will be on all acoustic instrument­s, including acoustic guitars and a grand piano. The group approaches each performanc­e with the philosophy of attempting to perform each song as the Beatles would if they performed it live. Tickets for the concert range from $27.25 to $37.25. LEARN ABOUT SANTA CRUZ'S MIGRATORS AT MIGRATION FESTIVAL

Nature lovers won't want to miss the 36th Annual Migration Festival at Natural Bridges State Beach on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This family-friendly event features informatio­nal booths, crafts, games and live music, among other attraction­s. The event as a whole celebrates the variety of life that passes through Santa Cruz during migration.

CHILDREN'S 3-D ART WORKSHOP SHOWS NEW WAYS OF CREATING ART

On Saturday from noon to 3:30 p.m., the Museum of Art and History will host a 3-D art workshop for kids ages 8 to 12. The event itself will be run by the founders (also profession­al artists) of ArtFuel, an organizati­on aiming to inspire children in art.

Participan­ts will build and experiment in 2-D and 3-D art in both individual and group projects.

The workshop also includes a guided tour of current MAH exhibit

FRENCH JAZZ SINGER CYRILLE AIMÉE COMES TO KUUMBWA

On Monday, Grammy-nominated French jazz singer Cyrille Aimée will perform at Kuumbwa Jazz.

Aimée receives consistent critical praise and has won competitio­ns such as the Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competitio­n and the Sarah Vaughn Internatio­nal Jazz Vocal Competitio­n.
