COMCAST DONATES $5 NON-PROFITS FOR STO

-

As Santa Cruz County works to recover and rebuild from the recent historic rainstorms that caused massive flooding, downed trees, landslides and other devastation, Comcast hosted a free event in Scotts Valley to

unite and uplift the community.

At the end of the event, Comcast surprised attendees by announcing a $50,000 donation to the United Way of Santa Cruz and Community

Bridges of Santa Cruz to support their storm recovery efforts.

“We appreciate Comcast hosting this community event. It was so nice to enable this hard-hit community to take a break, come together and support each other, while having some fun,” said Keisha Browden, CEO, United Way of Santa Cruz County. “Comcast’s financial contribution to our community will help us not only expand our recovery efforts but

also help us rebuild from this catastrophic disaster.”

“The Santa Cruz area has suffered so much from the recent storms – the devastation has been heart wrenching to experience and witness,” said Ray Cancino, CEO, Community Bridges. “This partnership and financial support from Comcast are coming at the ideal time and will provide important, valuable resources as the community strives to

get back on its feet.”

The event featured the Xfinity Experience trailer, a 12-foot by 18-foot LED screen on wheels, which screened box office hits Sing 2 and Minions: Rise of Gru for all families and community members to enjoy. The trailer also enabled free WiFi access and power so attendees could get online and charge their devices. Alongside the unique Xfinity trailer experience, attendees also enjoyed free food from local businesses Scrumptious Fish & Chips and El Buen Tacos. Popcorn, cotton candy, sweets and hot chocolate were offered, along with raffle prizes and special giveaways.

“All the communities around Santa Cruz were impacted by the storm in different ways, from power outages to flooding. It’s nice to see support from businesses like Comcast in the communities that were directly impacted.” said a family attending the event. “An event like this helps take our minds off what has been going on the last couple of weeks and provides us with an opportunity for our family to have someplace safe and fun to hang out. Our kids have loved watching Sing 2,

drinking hot chocolate and eating all the free snacks.”

Throughout the series of severe storms that hit in January,

Comcast supported communities across Northern and Central California, providing a range of services to evacuation and community support centers. Comcast’s network and engineering technicians monitored the storms’ impacts and worked diligently to restore Xfinity and Comcast Business

services that were impacted as quickly and safely as possible so customers could stay connected. Comcast also made its 147,000 public Xfinity WiFi hotspots available for free use by anyone, even non-customers, throughout Northern and Central California. This helped residents and emergency personnel stay connected

during the rainstorms.

Comcast is committed to the communities it serves and stands together with Santa Cruz as the area continues to recover and

rebuild after the storms.
