Aptos native Hiltz wins 1,500 race for USATF Indoor title
Lululemon runner Nikki Hiltz, an Aptos native, took first place in the women's 1,500-meter race at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Saturday.
Hiltz finished in 4:17.10. Sage Hurta-Klecker of On Athletics Club took second in 4:17.26, and Kristlin Gear of HOKA NAZ Elite took third in 4:18.21.
Hiltz's finishing time was well off her seasonbest time of 4:06.59 at the Millrose Games, but good enough for the win.

UC Santa Cruz's Eric Anderson won the mile race in 4:17.98 and 800-meter race in 1:55.33 at Coast-To-Coast Conference Indoor Championships in Newport News, Virginia, on Saturday. He was named the Male Athlete of the Meet and helped the Banana Slugs finish in second place overall.

UCSC's Ash Baudin won the mile race in a meet-record 5:09.92 at Coast-ToCoast Conference Indoor Championships in Newport News, Virginia, on Saturday. She also took second in the 800. She was named the Female Athlete of the Meet and helped the Banana Slugs finish in second place overall.
UCSC's Hanna Hekkanen won the 800 in 2:22.67, and Riley Martel-Phillips won the 3,000 in 10:29.89 and

Freshman guard Darius Best scored a team-high 19 points, and the Seahawks won their Coast Conference South Division finale Friday.
Sophomore forward Marco Beverly and freshman guard Clarence Martin each scored 12 points for the Seahawks (13-14, 5-7).
The Seahawks finished tied for fourth place in conference with Monterey Peninsula (11-15, 5-7). San Jose City (24-4, 11-1) held off West Valley (24-4, 10-2) for the title, and Gavilan (19-9, 8-4) took third.

The Banana Slugs were swept 25-21, 25-23, 25-16 in their opener at the CLU Invitational in Thousand Oaks on Friday.
Noy Fisher had 14 kills for UCSC (14-5), and Colton Jeffrey had nine kills and four digs. Mohan Duvvuri had 31 assists and six digs.

Sam Hall and Praneet Varade won singles matches for the Banana Slugs, but UCSC dropped it match in Pasadena on Friday.
Hall and Andre Mardirossian also won at No. 2 doubles.
