SANTA CRUZ HAVE A LEE FIELDS DAY AT MOE'S ALLEY

For those looking for a blend of soul and funk, Lee Fields will be providing just that when he comes to Moe's Alley, courtesy of folkYEAH.

Fifty-four years after releasing his first single, Fields is still in the game, having released his latest album “Sentimental Fool” just last year, which featured the song “Forever,” heard in a touching Farmer's Dog ad that aired during this year's Super Bowl. Fields' affinity for the timeless soul sound over the decades has led to performances with the likes of B.B. King, Bobby Womack and Kool & the Gang, as well as providing additional vocals for the 2014James Brown biopic “Get On Up.”

Opening for Fields will be San Francisco soul singer Andre Cruz and Bay Area multi-instrumentalist Chris Lujan.

The concert is 9p.m. Friday at Moe's Alley, 1535 Commercial

Way. Doors open at 8. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 the day of the show. For more information, go to Moesalley.com.

WALK IN A COUNTRY WONDERLAND WITH MARTHA SPENCER

All the way from the hills of Virginia, Martha Spencer will be performing her traditional country sound at the Catalyst Club, with not one but two sets Friday. In other words, audiences will get a double dose of Spencer.

Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains where she performed with her family in the Whitetop Mountain Band, Spencer has kept up the tradition of playing new and old country songs. In support of her newest album “Wonderland,” Spencer will be performing with the Wonderland Country Band, featuring Jamie Collins on bass and guitar, Lucas Pasley on fiddle and banjo, and Jake Dwyer on washboard.

Spencer will also be performing with her trio the Blue Ridge Girls, featuring herself, Collins and Brett Morris performing a mixture of old-time and original bluegrass and country songs. They recorded their debut album in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, which is expected to be released this year.

The concert is at 6:30p.m. Friday in the Catalyst Atrium, 1101 Pacific Ave. Doors open at 6. Tickets are $22 in advance and $26 when doors open. For more information, go to Catalystclub.com.

TOP DOG FILM FESTIVAL PROMISES `PAWSOME' CINEMA

Film festivals are common in Santa Cruz, but they usually center around humans. This Saturday is the pooches' time to shine as the Rio Theatre hosts the Top Dog Film Festival.

Over the course of two hours, filmgoers will be treated to a selection of short films from across the globe, all of which star dogs. It should be a howl of a time, one that will have audiences not only saying “Wow” but “Bow wow!” A portion of proceeds will go to the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. There will also be a pre-show Yappy Hour at Sante Adarius, 1315 Water St.

The festival is from 7to 9:30p.m. Saturday at the Rio, 1205 Soquel Ave. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at EventBrite.com. For more information, go to Topdogfilmfestival.com/.

GET THE BLUES WITH ERIC LINDELL

Always on the road, blues guitarist Eric Lindell is once again making Moe's Alley a stop on his tour, giving audiences a blend of his multiple influences.

The San Mateo-born singer performed in a few punk garage bands at a young age, then was drawn to the blues stylings of

Buddy Guy and Junior Wells in addition to the soulful sounds of the Impressions and Stevie Wonder. All of that has led to a varied career where he has performed all over the world, even attracting musicians such as Tom Waits and the Neville Brothers to his shows. Concertgoers can get a sense of his sound before he gets back on the road.

The concert is at 8p.m. Wednesday at Moe's Alley, 1535 Commercial Way.

Doors open at 7. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 the day of the show. This

is a 21-and-older concert. For more information, go to Moesalley.com.

Felton GET SHOOK WITH SARAH SHOOK AND THE DISARMERS ALL NIGHT LONG

Country music appears to be a big theme this week in the Santa Cruz area, and Sarah Shook and the Disarmers are a band that performs exactly that and blends it with some high-energy rock and roll, which will be seen in their set at Felton Music Hall.

Based out of North Carolina, Sarah Shook and the Disarmers are a cowpunk quartet who have put out three albums that bring a little bit of twang to punk rock and high-energy power chords to country music. Expect an evening of drinking and headbobbing as the Disarmers take the stage. Shook's other band, Mightmare, will open.

The concert is 8 p.m. Thursday at Felton Music Hall, 6275 Highway 9. Doors open at 7, and the restaurant will be open at 4. Tickets are $17 in advance and $19 the day of the show. This is a 21-andolder show. For more information, go to Feltonmusichall.com/.
