Watsonville residents should prep for rain

Wow, can we believe that we are almost at the end of 2023. As we enter the holiday season, I want to remind us all to be careful on the road as it gets darker sooner and the rainy season is upon us.

With the rainy season underway, we encourage you to prepare early. For example, as we do every year, the city is providing limited quantities of sandbags for free to Watsonville residents at two self-serve locations at Joyce McKenzie Park at 500 Joyce Drive, or Fire Station No. 1, 115 Second St., Watsonville.

Consider setting up your sandbags in advance and keeping them in place until the end of the rainy season. Filling and stacking sandbags is easier and more efficient when you have a team of people working together.

So, make sure to bring along a friend to help. Please go to our city website watsonville.gov for more information about how to properly fill, stack and place sandbags.

Unfortunately, due to weather conditions our Holiday Tree Lighting event on Friday was canceled and the Winter Preparedness Resources Event scheduled for that same day at the Plaza was postponed.

Please be on the lookout as we will keep you updated with the details once it is rescheduled. This one-stop-shop event will offer a variety of information booths, expert emergency preparedness staff, hands-on activities, and information on invaluable emergency preparedness resources.

Residents will have the opportunity to: learn how to create a family emergency plan; assemble an emergency kit with essential supplies; register for emergency notifications using the latest available systems; and understand local emergency services and communication systems. Pajama Storytime

Grab your favorite stuffed animals and slippers. Come to Pajama Storytime on the third
