Northern New Mexico has a history of moviemaking going back to 1914. Well- known productions filmed in the Santa Fe area include: A Million Ways to Die in the West, Wild Hogs, Lone Ranger, North Country, Bordertown, Independence Day, Natural Born Killers and City Slickers. The popular Terminator Salvation was released in 2009, and True Grit, nominated for an Oscar award for Best Picture, was completed in 2010. TV series including Manhattan, Longmire and Breaking Bad have also been filmed in the area. Three complete movie sets in the Santa Fe area are available for moviemakers, commercial shoots, new media and video productions of all types, and a film studio complex, Santa Fe Studios, opened its doors in 2011.
