Film festival aids Horse Shelter

The EQUUS Film Festival will make a stop in Santa Fe in support of The Horse Shelter.

The festival starts at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18, with a VIP reception and first screening at The Screen, 1600 St. Michaels Drive, at Santa Fe University of Art and Design. The festival continues through Saturday, Aug. 20.

Founded in 2013, The EQUUS Film Festival is the world’s premier showcase for domestic and internatio­nal feature films, documentar­ies and shorts in which the horse is center stage. The festival takes the winners and select films of more than 100 submitted films on tour around the world.

The festival’s opening night features performanc­es of A Native American Flute Honor

Song for the Horses by Grammy Award winner Micki Free and a dance by Larry Yazzie, two-time world champion Fancy Dancer, as well as a panel discussion by filmmakers. Tickets are $25 and are available at The Screen, 505473-6494 and at www.the screensf.com.

Tickets per block for Friday and Saturday viewings are $15; day passes are $35, with proceeds benefiting The Horse Shelter. For a listing of films and times, visit The Screen’s website.

The Horse Shelter is New Mexico’s first nonprofit rescue for abused, abandoned and neglected horses. Rescued horses are rehabilita­ted, trained and found adoptive homes whenever possible that support their well-being and future longterm care.
